Let’s see if you can fathom this number: over 66 million views on YouTube.
Before you think that’s some silly cat video or the latest Justin Bieber video, guess again.
These videos are centered around one topic: makeup.
Don’t worry; it’s not me applying makeup. 🙂
The girl on the screen showcasing her expertise is Emily Eddington. Emily is a former morning news anchor who quit her job so she can focus her makeup tutorial and review videos on her Beauty Broadcast YouTube channel.
There’s two reasons why love I Emily’s story:
- It doesn’t matter where you’re from. Emily is from our small town which goes to show you that it doesn’t matter where you live, you can kill it online if you have a passion.
- Her community continues to grow exponentially. I first interviewed Emily in March, 2011 (see link below) when she had 100,o00 subscribers and 17 million views. In two years, those numbers have more than quadrupled. Boom!
Hope you enjoy this one!

I love Emily and I discovered your blog through her. I saw the interview she did with you guys and I thought wow, this couple has what it takes to be successful online, I might as well learn from them!
I was running a free blog but thanks to you guys I gathered the strength to start a website. It’s been 4 1/2 months now and I am loving it!
All the best Jeff for your book!

That is just amazing! I subscribe to her channel with the hope that she will teach me how to apply makeup correctly! I get a ton of tips from her regarding applying makeup and purchasing the correct products. She is totally genuine as well. Thanks for the inspiration! Susan

So, I hate to admit this, but I’ve been quietly reading your blog for quite some time now….and, I have yet to comment. (until now!)
I absolutely love this story! It’s really quite amazing to see how she has basically turned herself into a brand–the “go-to” person for all things makeup. I think the deeper message here is that there is so much potential online nowadays that people, like Emily (and you guys, too!) can basically take the initiative and re-write the script to your life. I know there can be alot of risk involved, but, it’s kind of like her sticking it “to the man”, quitting her job, and having enough confidence to live her life on her own terms.
Great choice with this feature, guys!

@ Julie So glad you finally decided to “show” yourself. 🙂
Emily is awesome and we’re blessed to have her in our area.
Thanks for commenting!

I started following Emily about 2 years ago… her reviews are honest and really helpful. Her makeup and hair always look amazing. Glad to hear she was able to come home from her job and blog full-time!

What a great interview! Mandy really did a great job keeping the conversation going. Also, the audio for an “in-house” recording was great! Thanks for raising the bar (I gotta get my light kit out more often).

Emily and I used to anchor the news together. She is an incredible person and has given me plenty of starter tips and shout outs through the years. I miss working with her, but I am so proud of the success that has come her way.

Mandy, you did a great job interviewing her. I can’t believe you’ve never done it before. Interviewing an anchor is probably like hearing the Pope’s confession. The content of the interview was great but was there music in the background? Are you able to filter that out? Regardless, good job. Every time you post a new podcast, it inspires me to just go for it.

Great job for your first interview! You sounded like a pro! It’s really cool to see such a diversity in bloggers in our area. I loved at the end that she said would love an Ulta! Her wish came true haha.
