Advancing your career, starting a business, or just getting ahead can take a toll on any couple. In this episode, we’re opening up on how our marriage used to be second place to other focuses.
During the conference Jeff shared one big idea with everyone… don’t freak out just because we said a B-I-G idea. If you’re not in the financial industry and are thinking FinCon has nothing to offer me, this big idea can relate to marriage perfectly too.
A little backstory… in 2010 when Jeff’s blog was just starting up it took a lot of time. Day and night writing blogs, focusing on all the moving parts and constantly plugged in. While it doesn’t seem like a big deal to stay up late at night and work, but day after day when you’re not creating any time to spend with each other your marriage suffers.
Your family suffers.
It’s a hard road to walk.
It’s been a journey to find balance. How can you run a business or focus on anything your a passionate about and not have your wife divorce you or your family totally blow up?
We’ve had to learn to communicate with each other and fully express what our expectations are of each other. While working to provide for your family is a really good thing, there’s got to be some balance.
So here’s the big idea: Take one day, a full 24 hours period, each week to not give any of yourself to work or other focuses and just be with your spouse or family – fully present.
Have clear expectations.
It might just save your marriage.
