In case you didn’t believe me that they boys are loving their new sippy cups from ODIZ baby.
So much in fact, that he wouldn’t even stop drinking for a picture!

Thanks so much for all of your input on my bottle rant post! I love the loads of information and advice from all of you. I learned a TON. As you can see (from above), Bents has no problem taking a sippy. It’s just that…well…he still WANTS his bottle too!
I thought I would post what the majority of you answered in case anyone was curious …here are the reasons that it’s recommended you take away the bottle around 12 months of age:
1. Many of you said “milk mouth” essentially the milk stays in their mouth and leads to tooth decay. Nobody wants baby tooth decay!
2. The bottle may be more of a sucking/soothing issue for your baby. Which I think relates to Bents! He doesn’t take a paci so he only really wants his bottle, before nap times and night time. Definitely a soothing issue.
3. Thanks Brandi for suggesting the trainer cup!
4. Loved the advice from Amy too! She said that she asked her pediatrician this “What if I brushed his teeth after he had a bottle?” The pediatrician said that was fine and so she started the routine. He got his milk, (good nutrition) and got to love brushing his teeth too. If you have the discipline to brush your child’s teeth after every bottle than this may be a great solution for you!
5. I got to speak with Laura from Moms On Call (how awesome is that?) and she confirmed that many of you were right, bottles after 12 months of age can lead to baby tooth decay. She also spoke VERY honestly with me and said, “Really, at 21 months he’s not a baby anymore. He doesn’t need a bottle. He really only needs about 16 ounces of milk a day and he can get that by drinking from a sippy.” Her advice was to “rip it off like a bandade!” Of course, she told me to really praise him and encourage him when he is drinking from a sippy and tell him what a “big boy” he is being.
So, we are on day 6 of no bottle. I decided that I was going to just GO FOR IT…cold turkey (as Haley and Stylish Suburban would say)! So far so good! It’s not been easy, but I think he is understanding that momma means business! He has cried for it mostly at night when he goes to bed.
A few times I gave him a bottle with water in it and that seemed to help a little bit!
Hopefully we are on the road to LESS bottle cleaning!
