Fellas, Let me start helping you in advance of Valentines Day on the whole “What do I get for my wife??” struggle bus that we all have taken a ride or two on.
Buying gifts for your spouse can be incredibly difficult. For some of you, it may be the whole spending money on useless things obstacle and for others, it’s the whole, if she wanted it, she already went to the store and got it herself dilemma.
So what’s a man supposed to do for Valentine’s Day? Birthdays? Wedding Anniversaries? Christmas?… there’s more holidays and significant dates than I can even remember. (Sidenote: Set them all as a reminder in your ical… nothing’s worse than forgetting your wife’s birthday!!! Don’t worry baba – I know yours is coming up on the 19th.)
Bring on the CHEESE!
Guys, I’m telling you, romance is often super cheesy… And there’s nothing wrong with it. From leaving little notes for my wife, to purchasing something from Pier 1 Imports (it’s ok to sacrifice your man card and head on into a home décor store) you’ve got to get creative when it comes to gift giving sometimes.
I like to think of this as a strategy meeting.
If you’re like me, I like business a whole lot. I love to sit around with other men and toss ideas up onto a white board and plan our ideas down to the finest detail. So let’s gather around and toss our gift giving ideas for our wives here up on the “whiteboard” and do this thing together.
Here’s 3 easy ideas:
- Write a note. Whether it’s post it notes or any hand written card. Women LOVE handwritten notes… to them it says sweetness.
- DIY something original. For you fellas that need a definition of DIY, it means Do It Yourself. I know, that sounds a little scary… but let me tell you, you got this.
Head on into your local craft store and ask one of the sweet women working for some guidance on what to make and where to find all the supplies you need.
For example, I made this little shadow box from an idea I saw on Pinterest. (INSERT YOUR: whhoooo ahhhh – for both the fact that I DIY’d something AND the fact that I was on Pinterest).
- Get tickets. Concerts, movies, comedy shows… whatever it might be, find out what’s coming to a local stage near you and get some seats. Doing this little bit of prep work goes a long ways for women, showing them you were thinking in advance, yep, that will blow her mind.
I’d love to hear your favorite ideas… help a brotha out!

I think that planning a date night (including taking care of finding a babysitter) is my fav thing to “get” on Valentine’s Day!
