Ok…so I went against my better judgement.
I bought a gender prediction kit. I know I know. Is it likely that these things are accurate????
According to my ultrasound tech today…she says she has proved this test wrong at least once. Hmmmm.
Here’s how it started….
Like I mentioned, I had an ultrasound today. I decided to have the test done to test for chromosome abnormalities. Some people choose not to have this test done, but me…well…I’m anal. So, I must know.
I had it with P and everything was fine. Well, DUH, because he is clearly perfect.
Bias.
I decided to do it again with this baby. Not that the results would change anything about my pregnancy. I mean….I would never terminate the pregnancy because of it. But, I’m a planner, and I would like to know if something is wrong up front so I can prepare myself.
I don’t have the results yet.
But….while we were doing the ultrasound the tech looked to see if we could tell the gender. She was hesitant to even look because she said it’s hard to tell at 12 weeks, but “just for fun” I thought we should check it out.
What we saw….
….not really conclusive either way. It definitely looked like something was between the legs. It wasn’t flat. But, according to her, this could be either “boy parts” or a “swollen labia”. She said at 12 weeks the girls labia is usually very swollen which can sometimes look like boy parts.
She wouldn’t even give me her best guess. She honestly said she really could not tell and she couldn’t even give me a percentage either way. I respect that. I mean, I would rather her not guess until the ultrasound is clear enough. You know me…I’d be out buying stuff tomorrow if I knew the gender.
J was SURE he saw a penis. He left saying it was “FOR SURE A BOY”. Of course, he wants a boy so he was all about the fact that there was something little sticking up between the legs.
I actually thought it was probably a boy too. Not sure why. But, I just did.
So….what’s a curious girl to do. Go to Walgreens immediately and buy a gender prediciton kit. Yep! Even after my tech said she’s proved it wrong. She also said she has had many patients that it has been right. I guess there’s a 50/50 chance.
The test CLEARLY said….GIRL! If it stays yellow or turns orange it means girl. If it turns dark green it means boy. Well, as you can see, it stayed pretty yellow.
So now I am extremely confused! My bf Jen took this test with her first baby 3 times and each time it said “girl”…and sure enough she had a little girl.
Time will tell. We will have to wait until the 16 week mark to find out the truth about the gender of this baby. For now, I am just happy that I got to see my second little peanut moving around like a happy healthy lil baby today!
But I am curious to know….what’s your guess? And have you ever taken the gender prediciton test?

I think these are the most fun tests around!!! They didn’t have them when I was pregnant with Ellie but I totally would have taken one too!!! Every friend I have that has taken one they’ve always been correct but I can’t wait to hear what your 16 week sonogram shows too!!! XOXO

I never took the test, but I knew when I was three weeks, Jack was a boy. It was a combination of my intuition and this dream my mom had. She had a dream about 2 weeks before I ever knew I was pregnant, that I was expecting a boy! I was so convinced I didn’t even have a girls name. I think I would have died if the ultrasound showed he was a girl! What’s your intuition say?

Well, it seems to me that the test has a 50/50 shot at being correct. Kind of like everyone else has a 50/50 shot at guessing correctly. Hopefully you’ll get another sonogram and can tell for sure. Those types of tests can be fun unless it drives you insane until you know for sure. Who knows, if I were in your shoes I might do the test, too, just for kicks.
Ok, now I’m dying to know for sure… go get another sonogram already! : )

I helped my neighbor take a gender test where you pricked your finger and sent it off to find out the results and you couldn’t even let a man touch it, lest he contaminate it. The results said girl and she started planning and when it came time for the ultrasound it was a boy! The good news is the test refunded her money once Preston was born and she sent them a copy of the birth certificate.

I’m curious to see what your 16-wk appt says, to see if the predictor kit works! How fun! And I’m so very happy that your little one is healthy, no matter what the gender 🙂

I had a sonogram done at 12 weeks, also during a chromosome test, and they saw something “suspicious” between our bean’s legs. Our tech was guessing boy right away. Then, three weeks later we had another sonogram done at the doctor, and he said it was a boy right away. We purchased the gender prediction kit, and decided against taking it because we had two boy confirmations already. So we just returned it for a refund. Then, at our 18 week sonogram, he’s definitely a boy!

I know…it’s hard to wait to see what the sex of the baby is. It’s fun trying to predict though.
Hope you are doing wonderfully!!

I had an ultrasound done at 12 weeks too. That is when I found out Eman was a boy. My mom’s best friend was able to do an ultrasound around 12 weeks and I really did not think she would tell us the gender. We were just going to look at the baby move around….that’s it. But of course when she started, we looked at the screen and she said, “I think I see a little nubbins.” I said, “What do you mean? A Nubbins!” of course she was meaning boy parts. haha I will try to find those pics for you and you can compare what you saw.

OMG! I took this test with my second child and for sure thought I was having a girl! I was so excited and then we went for our gender ultrasound and it was a BOY! I finally had my girl this year haha

Haha! So I went back a ways in the blog today and came across this:) I did this with Parker and it said girl also. He’s definitely a boy, so it was wrong on my end also:) although I have had a handful of friends do them as well and theirs were right! So I dunno? I think it’s a 50/50 chance with these things!

I used one of these when I was pregnant with my son and it was VERY accurate! By the way….since I’m obviously commenting on an old post, I just recently found your blog and stared at he beginning! Loving it so far!
