I’m actually cracking up at myself because as I type this post {that has been in draft for well over 2 months}…I realized that I have already changed the layout of this decor on top of the entertainment center YET again.
I do not have decorating A.D.D. I do not have decorating A.D.D. I do not have decorating A.D.D.
<<said in my most sarcastic voice ever>>
I am constantly changing things up around these parts.
Well, everything but that giant canvas print that cost me more than the labor and delivery expenses of my three kids put together.
I feel bad that SJ isn’t in it…really I do. But not bad enough to splurge and replace it.
My excuse?
I keep telling myself that I shall wait until baby #4 arrives. Then we can replace it with a complete family photo.
Makes sense, don’t-cha-think?
I’m debating whether or not I want to paint the black mirror above the canvas print. Black almost blends in with the wall so I thought about painting it white.
Doing so would require me to get a ladder and take it down…which is why so far…it’s stayed black.
Thoughts?
Shall I overcome the laziness, get the ladder and paint it white? Or shall I admire it being black for now?
Do you see those entertainment center doors?
I literally stapled left over fabric on to cardboard {cardboard from our basketball goal box to be exact} and then put it behind the glass to hide all of our nicely stacked jumbled dvd’s.
It makes it look so much cleaner. I assure you…open those doors and things may start falling on you.
A few easy changes I made:
- Switched out the picture frames – sometimes this is the easiest way to change the look of a shelf or tabletop.
- Added a vase with flowers – this gave it a little more color and dimension.
- Subtracted a candle holder – I ended up placing it on another shelf in the house so it didn’t go to waste.
- Added the fabric to the glass – hello cleanliness!
Are you like me and find yourself re-decorating all the time? What’s your favorite decor tip?

Your home is just GORGEOUS, Mandy. I love that you covered the glass with fabric, sort of gives me an idea for our coffee table. hmm! I wouldn’t part with that canvas, it looks great there and it was your family at one time. Just include a family print of all of you (after #4) somewhere else… 🙂 I think the mirror looks fine, but now I want to see it painted white! 😉

I love the covering the glass idea! I think painting the mirror white might be too harsh with everything else there – maybe a cream or grey? Definitely think another color would help it pop though!

I am itching to do some redecorating at my house. I am in the process of making a list of things to buy.
I love the changes you made.

That large canvas is so adorable! I love the look of that space and the wall color is gorgeous! I like the mirror black, I think it ties in nicely with the dark color of the cabinet below. Painting it white might make it pop a little too much. Of course you could always give it a go and if all else fails, repaint!
Cathy says
I think you should leave the mirror black. Why? Because then the focal point will be the beautiful canvas. Just my two cents! I have the same chevron vase! 🙂
Love your decor!

I REALLY wish you could come redecorate my whole entire house! I just love your style so so much!

Hey – new reader here! Your home is gorgeous, but I have to agree with the others that white might be too harsh for the mirror frame, but a nice grey would look great! I am always altering stuff in my home and always have two or three projects on the go. In fact, my husband thought I was sad/depressed on Sunday because I was so quiet, however my brain was working overtime planning the next changes 🙂

I love all the changes! And yes, I would so paint that mirror white. Maybe even an antique sort of white, and then distress it a bit? I did something similar to an old mirror I had, and now it’s up on the mantle and I LOVE it. Took a little bit of elbow grease, but totally worth it IMO.

Paint it white, paint it white – I had a slight obsession with painting everything white for awhile…or maybe a lighter gray up there, so it doesn’t stand out quite so much. Love that canvas – totally worth it’s weight in gold, and yes, I agree, wait for baby #4 before making the splurge again!

I really love the canvas! The flowers you added look great as well. I am DYING to redecorate my living room as well. I need to desperately get some light in there, but also need to redecorate the tv area. it looks like a hot mess right now. Great post!

I really like how the mirror matches the black background, and I also like how your picture was placed and blown up. Gives me great ideas. Awesome post!

Hey do you have two black and white chevron pillows? One on couch and one on brown chair?
Jessica says
Can you please come do my house!!? Love your style so similar to mine. Im in a beige black hole. Beige carpet….beige walls….beige couch…. then espresso wood furniture…. wish I had your creativity!!

I like what you did with the cabinet doors. How did you attach the fabric covered cardboard to the glass door?

Love, love, love this blog. I definitely would not paint the mirror white. Do you paint yourself? The last time I painted, a little tiny room, I nearly went crazy. Trying to decide between hiring very expensive painter and sucking up my type a-ness and learning to love DIY.

I love the huge family picture of yours at the center, I wish we had in our house. Thank you for sharing your idea.

You have such a beautiful home! I was wondering what size area rug you have in your living room. Also, do you have a pad under it?
