The last few days I have felt like I have had…
nothing to share.
Nothing to write about.
Nothing to type.
Notta.
I just felt like I needed a couple days off.
I got to spend Thursday afternoon with two of my friends, Katie and Amy, and we hung out in the pool all afternoon. It was so much fun to lay by the pool without a child yelling my name.
Usually the second that my butt hits the raft someone needs a snack, or to potty, or a toy that they can’t reach.
I rarely ever get to lay in the pool unbothered. And sometimes a momma needs to be unbothered, right?!
Since Thursday, I haven’t been on social media much either. It’s just one of those times where taking a break feels so good.
Almost too good.
I took SJ to his one year wellness check yesterday and come to find out…he had a slight fever and an ear infection! I felt like a terrible mother for having no idea. He wasn’t acting sick AT ALL! I did think he felt a little warm on the way there, but never did I think he was sick.
In fact, does this look like the face of a sick little guy to you?
Yea. Me either.
We are planning to play it low key today and tomorrow. P Man had his last t-ball game of the season and we may get a few pool hours in, but then again…we may not.
No itinerary. No agenda.
Gotta enjoy summer weekends of nothingness right?
They are few and far between.
Oh, and we don’t have a summer vacation planned yet, but last night my husband decided that he wants to take one.
It was long debated since vacation is not really vacation when you take along 3 little boys under the age of 5. Plus, SJ is at that awkard stage where it is hard to take him to the beach or somewhere warm.
One of our babysitters has agreed to come along with us if we want to go (AMEN). Best.Idea.Ever.
So now the question becomes…where shall we go? We went to Destin, FL two summers ago and loved it, but I am kinda wanting to go somewhere different.
What’s your favorite vacation spot (kid friendly of course)? We need ideas!
We prefer somewhere sunny…
…some of us like to wear our shades.

Yes! A social media break has been happening around here too & much needed & overdue! Glad your having a nice relaxing weekend!

We’re going to Door County, Wisconsin, which is on Lake Michigan. LOVE it there, we’ve always vacationed there when I was a kid and I’m so excited to take mine this year. 🙂

Come farther south down this way! Our favorite beach to take the boys to is Clearwater. There are several aquariums close. You could catch a Tampa Bay Rays game. The Tampa Zoo is one of the best family zoos voted by Parents mag. John’s Pass is a fun eating/shopping area. I could go on and on. And I agree bringing babysitter with is a fabulous idea!

Poor SJ doesn’t look sick at all. We love to vacation in Gulf Shores Alabama. It’s on the Florida border and is a smaller beach area. 30 minutes away is Pensacola air station and they have the best airplane museum that’s free. The boys would love it! They get to play in some of the planes and see how things work. There is also a zoo and nature center in Gulf Shores. We usually get a condo from gulfshores4rent.com and it’s been awesome. Good luck vacation hunting.

I decided I was in need of a break as well. I wasn’t being very attentive to my husband and just wanted a few low key days with him. It has been kind of nice to tune out.

One place that I feel like is overlooked is Holland, Michigan. It’s too far if you are wanting to drive but it is on the southern coast of Lake Michigan and it is BEAUTIFUL! The houses are quaint and the beach is within walking distance to any house you rent. There is a ton to do in town that is ALL within walking distance. The lake is exactly like an ocean with small waves and minus the saltwater and sharks. haha! They even have a blueberry festival in late July-early August. I can’t remember but we have been twice and LOVED it! Very family friendly 🙂 Good luck finding something for your family

I guess I just remembered that the town we stayed in was called South Haven. Holland was bigger but I recommend South Haven 🙂

our favorite place to go is about 30 minutes from destin–a little town called sea grove and seaside. it is SO much better than destin. it’s less crowded, less congested and ,less commercial. it really feels like i’ve just gone back to 1955. people ride bikes everywhere and nothing is rushed. we can’t go this summer and i’m having horrible withdrawals!!

Our family owns a condo in Myrtle Beach and vacation there a few times a year. I love it there and wouldn’t want to go anywhere else. There is so much to do for families not to mention the outlet shopping!!

I agree that your boys would be in heaven in Myrtle Beach. Also great in South Carolina – Hilton Head. Absolutely beautiful and all about family. In Florida, we love Ponte Vedra Beach on the Atlantic and Clearwater on the Gulf. When we go on vacation, we ONLY go to sun spots, and we ONLY go family-friendly (four kids…. you know how it is). Our kids LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE each place I have mentioned here. And oh yeah so do my husband and I, we didn’t suffer too badly when we took the kids there :). Good luck planning! Just as a side note, we always go to Florida in August to get super cheap rates at the nicest resorts (because it seems to be their off season).

As a native South Carolinian, I would deter you from going to Myrtle Beach. WAY too commercialized, tacky, etc. It didn’t get the Redneck Riviera nickname for nothing. There’s a Wings on every corner, if you know what I mean. I know there is a lot to do there, but if you want a nicer beach with still a lot to do, I would suggest one of the Charleston beaches. Folly Beach has a laid-back vibe, and a little more upscale would be Isle of Palms. Either one is close to downtown Charleston where there are carriage tours, an aquarium, the USS Yorktown, the Market, and if you want outlet shopping, Charleston has that too.
A little further down the road from Charleston, not commercialized at all- think no hotels, one grocery store, a handful of restaurants- is Edisto Beach. Great family beach, still only an hour’s drive from Charleston if you wanted to visit.
Just some thoughts!

San Francisco! It’s not TOO hot, it’s actually quiet nice and never actually “hot, hot”. Santa Monica, California! Or there is always southern Cali!
What about the Keys? I love love love Key West, Florida! South Carolina! Alabama has awesome beaches! Or you can always come to see me in Texas! We have South Padre, Galveston, etc… NOT THE PRETTIEST beaches… but beaches none the less!

Hm……
1. Myrtle Beach
2. Hilton Head
3. Tampa
4. Gulf Shores
5. Dallas
6. Atlanta
7. South Carolina beach area
8. Virginia Beach area
9. Boca Raton, FL with me!!! :0)
10. Indianapolis, IN with me!! :0)
11. Is Cincinnati sunny?…..add it to the list if you consider that sunny enough for you. ;0)
12. I want to go to Galveston!
13. Phoenix, AZ?– I have heard you can get awesome deals in the summer since the dry heat scares people and they don’t go!
14. Southern California! 🙂 I think San Fransico would SUCK to drag kids up and down those hills in strollers…maybe you wouldnt mind but man oh man!!!
Are you staying in the continental US?
Hannah says
LOVING the vacation Ideas!! I oppose to none of them!! Just putting it out there
Kenzie says
You should strongly consider central Minnesota 🙂 I may or may not be slightly biased… But I’d even be willing to take the boys for a day! 🙂 You guys could hit up Mall of America and all that fun stuff… Plus, the beaches may not be all that glamorous, but the lakes are gorgeous and virtually everywhere. 🙂 Haha totally just throwing this out there!!! Obviously I just want to see y’all! Can’t wait to hear whatcha pick and hope wherever you go it’s so much fun! 🙂

I have to second South Haven, MI. White sand beaches, cute downtown and the best ice cream. Or, go further up the coast of Lake Michigan to find any number of cute towns with sand dunes, clean beaches and lots of fun :).

Wow! Felicia had a VERY extensive list! LOL All great places! As you know we’ve decided on TX (San Antonio, Galveston, Houston, and possibly Dallas to be exact). Although our other choice was FL (Orlando and Tampa). We weren’t even going to do Disney. There is soooo much other stuff to do, plus you have beaches on either side of the state. I’m sure whatever your choice is will be great! Can’t wait to hear your decision! 🙂
