I’m kicking off 2013 with some major organization projects! You would think I’m nesting or something. Ahem.
I guess I technically am since our new child will arrive IN 2013 {we pray}.
This is also week ONE of the “Dog Days (of Winter) Are Over” link party…and it’s all about “organization”.
As y’all know, I work from home. I consider this space MY home office, although I will admit I have to share it with the hubs occasionally. He’s a hot mess when it comes to organization so I try to keep him out of here as much as possible.
I tell him that his office is the couch! He has a laptop. Who wouldn’t want a couch office? Duh!
This seat right here is where you will find me on most days. Blogging away.
We do a lot of brainstorming in this space. One of my favorite organizing tools that we added to this space has been the giant white board.
I wanted a creative yet attractive way to incorporate a GIANT white board in our office. This particular one was a self-adhesive white board that we stuck to the wall and then trimmed out to match the desk.
Blog ideas, post schedules, mind maps, video line ups….all go up on the big IDEA board.
I have tons of storage bins that I use for things like envelopes, checks, markers, receipts, kids activity books, etc.
My dad custom built the desk and bookshelves. Amaze-balls, right? I gave him my vision and he made it come to life. He actually created something that was BETTER than my vision. He’s good at the wow-factor.
I love all of the custom drawers and cubbies. It gives me lots of room to store my files, pictures, printer paper, card stock, office supplies, etc.
I wanted something durable for the counter-top so we chose butcher block. It’s something you normally see in a kitchen, but I love the use of it in a home office space.
Not to mention that it’s nice and smooth for when I need to be writing.
I can finally say that I love working from home now that I have a space that is ORGANIZED and decorated!
The boys love to come sit with me while I am working so the extra chair….is vital. Otherwise they are trying to sit on my lap. This was the chair I took from my grandmother’s house after she passed.
My uncles were making fun of me since it looks like it came straight from the 70’s. But for me? It was the inspiration behind making the accent color in this room rust orange.
My 2013 goals are to keep this baby organized! As long as the hubby sticks to his couch office I should be golden. Ahem.

I love your office. I am hoping I can get hubby to build me the desk I want. I have one of those hideaway kind. It just is not big enough for me. I end up having to spread out on the coffee table to do my homework or what ever other stuff I want to do.

Hey Mandy! I have been a fan of your blog since I first came across your bedroom pinned on Pinterest. I love your home decor! I really wish you would have took us through your drawers and really got a look at the organizational part of this room. Not just the lamps and chairs and pillow.
I can try and do a separate post on that if you would like! 🙂 It took me forever just to get the basics of the room organized, but I do have the drawers and bins and file cabinets organized as well! I’ll work on getting some pics!

Gosh, this room is just beautiful! I too, work from home. My husband is a chiropractor and we own a car wash, which I run from home. And we now own two commercial building with tenants, so the paperwork will start increasing, even if minimally. My office is a disaster, but one of my goals this year is to ORGANIZE!! It’s a 10′ x 10′ space and has a L shaped desk. Pretty boring. I would love to walk into a home office space like yours every day. It’s doable, I know, but since your desk/storage is all homemade, I was wondering if you have any tips as to where to find something even similar that could be purchased? I love all the drawers and cubbies… it’s exactly what I need! Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated!
Mandy – I love love your home office! Just gorgeous! Your decorating and organizing style is awesome, I inspire to be like you. (I just need your dad to come build for me!! haha) I am loving your blog and all your posts. Being a stay at home mom of 2, daughter Austen (11 mos.) and Xavier (4), I have always wanted to be a blogging mom, but I’m just slow going at it. (and I’m a lurker…I love reading everyone else’s blogs!) And I need to give myself some credit, I’m so so busy doing all the bookkeeping for our farm, but someday I hope to tackle both maybe when my daughter gets a older too. Keep up the great work!

Funny, my dad builds stuff too and while he wasn’t in town to build my desk, I did get the idea from him…custom desks are great. Mandy, this space is wonderful! Love the pop of color on your grandmother’s accent chair (so sweet) and the butcher block for the desktop is genius. You (and your dad!) are so creative. Can he come build our office in the basement? Because I’m having heart palpitations at the price of the cabinets/desks we picked out. LOVE this office!

Mandy, I love your home,your style (decorating & fashion 🙂 and your spunky personality!! I keep looking at all your colors as I am in the process of updating my home and am challenged in the paint selection process! I am attempting to coordinate our traditional colonial DR and Office which our to the left & right of our foyer. I want a focal wall color (charcoal, warm gray) with neutral warm wall colors with pop of ceiling color eithe rather focal wall color or half strength of this color….
Any woo, I love your DR colors and office, kitchen colors did you keep same colors and just play with focal walls and ceilings to keep the harmony? This is an awesome home office, Mandy! Congrats! And kudos to your father for that desk. Did he have plans that he followed or just figured it out as he went along? I just bought a house and I’m trying to determine what kind of desk I want… has to be a corner desk and I love the way yours looks. If he used plans and still has them, I would be extremely grateful if he/you didn’t mind sharing. Thanks for the blog and again, looks fantastic!

Lovely office space….Keeping your home office organized, clean, and clear can be a challenge. Well! If the office is unorganized, cluttered or out-of-control, the idea of reorganizing it may be overwhelming… A cluttered space leads to a cluttered mind.
