“Time….is on our side. Yes it is…. ” -The Rolling Stones
Blogging is easy!
You can make thousands of dollars wearing your yoga pants and your laptop!
Make money fast!
Blah blah blah….
Can you make money blogging? Absolutely! That’s evident in our income reports. But how much time does it really take?
Or as most people want to know from us, “How much time do you really spend working on your blogs?“.
You asked so we shall deliver.
But were curious, how much time do you spend blogging?
Susan Jeffries says
I spend too much time right now! I am still learning the ropes, so it is taking a lot of my time. I post three times a week and that is all I can handle. I would love any suggestions on how to reduce my time spent blogging while still being effective! Thanks! Susan

Spending so much time, but not getting the results!

Hi guys,
I work full time and run a blog. We also have 3 small children at home. So, it’s a given that time is short for blogging.
I find that running a blog effectively requires good sized chunks of time. And, once I have the time there’s always prioritizing tasks: Do I write content? Or, do I work on off page seo? Or do I work on site design?
Oftentimes I find myself spending way too much time correcting parsing errors that cause my site to go totally blank. Man I hate that. But, if I want the site to look decent, I have to do customizations. Ugh.
Like the new look by the way.

I am spending about an hour at night after kids go to bed to put posts together, then another hour in the morning before breakfast to set up social media for the day. It has taken a year to learn how to do this! I spent hours and hours for months when I first started just reading and reading and reading! There was so much to learn!
Taynia | The Fical Flamingo says
When I first started blogging 11 months ago, I had a personal blog and I spent tons of time learning everything. From design to html to opt-ins to photography, etc. Between learning and writing content 4-5 times I week I was spending at least 40 hours a week on my blog. After finding what I really wanted to blog about, I started The Fiscal Flamingo in June and now I only spend about 10-15 hours a week on it. But I would be happy to spend ALL of my time if it wasn’t for this thing called life. 🙂 I find the most time consuming aspect to be marketing. If it wasn’t for that, I could easily cut down my time to 5 hours a week since I only post on Fridays.

I think it would be unreasonable to NOT expect to blog a fairly decent amount, at least initially. Well-established blogs likely can get away with not blogging nearly as much. Many I’ve read have not only shifted to sustaining their blog’s content with a plethora of guest posts, but, I generally only see them post maybe 1 to 3 times a week. I think alot of well-established bloggers had the great benefit of being early entrants, or first movers, in the blogging space….before thousands of people started doing it, they had the benefit of that. There takes a great deal of forsight and vision required to do that, though.
With that said, for “blogging” itself, I would say anywhere from 1-3 hours a day. Writing posts, though, I think, is just a small part of what actually makes a blog successful. Outside of that, we also spend alot of time posting to forums, commenting on other blogs, etc. We have other aspects to our internet business, so we work on those, as well.

Hey guys, also, I don’t know if you know this or not, but, as of today, Pinterest is allowing the pinning of articles, as well. (I’m just mentioning this because I know you guys have used Pinterest here, and elsewhere, with decent success, from what I can see….)
“We’re excited to announce a new feature for pinning online articles. Similar to recipe and movie pins, article pins will have extra information included to make them more useful, such as the headline, author, story description and link to the original source. You can read all the details about article pins and how to use them on our blog.”
Elsewhere, I’ve read several comments so far, this morning, ranging from this being a great thing….to it being an absolutely horrible thing. I was wondering what you guys think about this? Do you think you’ll take advantage of this?

Hello Dollar and Roses- My husband and I just started blogging. Your websites have served as an inspiration and a treasure trove of knowledge and tips. We’ve only been at this for a couple of weeks, but we’re spending every free moment on the blog! Thank you for this podcast.

I’ve always worked my business around my family (three kids at home), so I’ve set my limit at 10 hours per week. Now that I’m six years in, I’ve increased my monthly income because I can do more in less time (for freelance articles), I can get much more for sponsored posts than I could years ago, and I know how to say no to opportunities that don’t meet my business goals.

I’ve been listening to all your podcasts, but I wanted to come back and say that this was one of my all-time favorites. I wish I could build a great blog in just a couple hours a week, but I know that’s not realistic. Your honesty is extremely helpful.
I absolutely love these podcasts, they are a great help!
