Literally people.
This is one of those times where being a “perfectionist” is not cool. Not cool at all.
When you start planning a vacation to a place you have NEVER been…and you are trying to find the perfect condo for the perfect price in the perfect location…you will begin to feel overwhelmed. Badly.
Especially when you realize that planning your vacation 4 weeks prior to your arrival date does not leave you many options. Perfectionists usually like options.
I spent at least 2 full days straight researching places to stay in Hilton Head, SC. Yes, nearly 16 hours of googling went down. It was not pretty.
Nor fun.
But completely necessary for my type A self to feel good about this vacation.
And just when I found the perfect location for the perfect price, I was on the phone about to book it {non-refundable I might add}…it hit me…
“I think my son may start kindergarten that week.”
Oh yes, I had to ask the nice resort representative if I could call her right back while I found out when my son started kindergarten.
Seriously? Like this NEVER occurred to me prior to the last 16 hours of research? Never?
She probably thought “What a whack job!”
Who doesn’t check there child’s school calendar before booking a vacation???
At least I have the excuse that “school” is new to us. We are not use to having to work around “school” because so far…none of my kids have been in “real” school yet.
And let’s just say that I am so glad I “double checked” his first day of school because I was about to make him miss Day 1, Day 2, & Day 3 of kindergarten. That would not be a proud mommy moment.
After realizing that I had just spent the last 2 days searching for a place to stay in Hilton Head for the WRONG week…I crossed my fingers and prayed that the condo I was about to book was open for the week we needed it.
Luckily it was. Phew!
But after a good 19 hours logged of vacation planning…I’m spent. And I honestly don’t care if I am ever in charge of planning our family vacation again. Ever.
Passing the baton to hubby for next year.
All I know is that I am ready for some of this…
*I would like to thank the girls on twitter who helped me narrow down the area I wanted to stay in Hilton Head. If it weren’t for you lovely ladies I would have planned my vacation and it would have taken me 49 hours. So thank you! Truly appreciated!

Oh Mandy I feel your pain! We scheduled dates, flights and place to stay for when we go to Colorado in September but we can’t find a rental car that won’t cost an arm and a leg! Go figure! I hope you have a fabulous vacation!!

Don’t feel bad, I spent weeks planning our Disney/Florida vacation. I don’t even want to know what it was broken down into hours. =)
