Our living room is the space that it all happens. From morning to night, we’re here wrecking everything in sight, being superheroes to save the dog, coloring (preferably on paper and not the walls), crying when we don’t get along and everything in-between. This is the place that makes our house, our home.
Let’s start with the fireplace. When we built our house years ago I didn’t have a vision for the fireplace area. There was only one thing I knew…and that was that I absolutely HAD to have that grey square tile… but then, I decided I didn’t like it… ahem. You’ve been there right?
So my dad (whom I’m guessing didn’t love the tile in the end either) had a grand idea to give the fireplace a little fancy makeover.
If that dad of mine comes up with one more good idea I just may have to put him on the payroll.
We pieced all the white trim together from Lowe’s. It was our own little creation…one that took us far too long to decide on.
After laying out nearly a jillion pieces of trim in the back of the Lowe’s store we finally decided on this combo. It’s amazing what a few pieces of trim and some paint can do.
After we brought Nella home, this space had to get a makeover for the sake of practicality. I’m totally all about functionality. Style is great, but it HAS to be functional too.
Little babies have lots of stuff. Toys. Diapers. Clothing. I mean, for the love… they need storage all over the house.
Cue the bookshelf.
Breakable items I love from Magnolia Market on the top and kid-proof baskets on the bottom. Everyone is happy.
To say Nella took over the living room, might just be an understatement.
About 2 weeks in, she needed more than just a shelf with baskets… now she’s got an entire corner.
How could I resist that little rug with Roses on it? It’s her own space that she can do her thing… and I’m not sure if our boys know what to think of all the PINK that’s crashed in on them.
Here’s a good picture that you can see the gallery wall in our living room… because what room in our home doesn’t have a gallery wall?
And the funny thing is, I have already changed this gallery wall to a new one. Gosh, I have issues.
Everyone is always asking what’s the trick to creating your own gallery wall? Here it is: If you like it, tack it up on the wall.
BOOM.
Done.

Open to our living room is the kitchen… so I think it’s only fair if you see a little bit of the newest barstools we’ve added.
With three boys and 1 girl, these stools needed to be one thing: durable.
Metal and wood was the perfect combo… plus I think Jojo would approve of them too.
Our entryway often becomes an extension of the living room… I try and keep it neat and a little more “fancy”… but who are we kidding? Boys think that bench is a perfect diving board to jump from.
Hello crazy.
Let’s be honest, I have already rearranged this entire living room a time or two since these photos. Again, because I am clearly mental.
And by the time I show you the new layout (with the new couch)… I will probably have changed it a million more things. Haha!
There’s not shame in my game.

This looks great – and good tastes in books! I read the Best Yes in 2016 and really got a lot out of it!

Gorgeous space! Please tell me where you found your wall clock? We’ve been on the hunt for that perfect wood/metal mix and can’t find it anywhere!

Hobby Lobby!

I thought you had a grey sofa and when you said you’ve changed things since this picture it made sense. How do you keep your white rugs from looking dingy with all the traffic of boys? Are those two light fixtures over your dining table? They’re both pretty.
Mandy says
Yes, we have two different light fixtures. LOL! I got rid of the off white rug… for that exact reason. HA!
