I will be sharing some posts on our adoption that I have been writing over the past 6 months. This post was written on June 11, 2012.
I knew that when we began this journey the “waiting” would darn near make me crazy.
I don’t “wait” well.
Patience is not in my vocabulary. Luckily, after having 3 kids, God has given me slightly more patience than I use to have….but I could still use more.
I was feeling so positive that we finished our last adoption training session back in April. It seemed like things were starting to take shape and we would be able to have our home study finalized within weeks of that last visit.
Dun-dun-dun.
Not so much. The coordinator that was conducting our home study quit and took a new position days after our last training.
I felt like crying. Literally, I may have. Here we had spent the last few months describing our ENTIRE life to someone so they could properly write up our home study and BAM…she was gone.
What did that mean?
That meant we were left having to “WAIT” for the company to hire someone new, train them, and then get them up to snuff on our entire last 4 months of work with the old coordinator.
I felt disappointed {understatement of the year}.
I think I waited almost a month after the last training before I heard anything from the company. Finally, on May 16th {SJ’s first birthday} we met with the coordinator that had replaced our previous one so that she could learn where we were in the process and what exactly had to be finished.
The previous coordinator had written our home study {THANKFULLY} and we really just needed a few final pieces for it to be finalized. Little did I know those few last questions that had to be answered and included (questions that take minutes to answer) would take yet ANOTHER full month.
Mostly because the position that once was “full-time”…was now cut down to “part-time” and the new coordinator had half the time the old one did.
AHHHH! Really Illinois?
You make adopting so easy.
Ahem.
I can finally now say that I have a rough draft of our home study in my hands as we speak and we should be able to get it sent off to the State of Illinois THISย {June 11, 2012} week. Hopefully that will mean we can get approval from the State and we are one step closer to sending it off to the Philippines!
I have a feeling that IL won’t be “quick” when it comes to approving it so please be praying for us as we wait.
And wait. And wait!
And although we may be waiting…it doesn’t mean that we aren’t ready. All we need to complete this hallway gallery wall is the new initial of our littlest one!
My friend April sent me this and it truly captures my feelings…
I can only imagine how glorious the day will be when we meet our next child!
In my heart I know that God’s timing is the best timing…so I will wait. And although my attitude on waiting will not always be a butterfliesandicecream kind of attitude…I will remain certain that His timing is all that matters.
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.ย Galatians 6:9

Yes, hang in there! You’re getting so close! The wait is worth it! We have been *waiting* since November when we made our very first call. The process in California takes about 4-5 months but we have had to push back for this reason or that. Right now, my family is in the middle of our homestudy. We have our next appointment in 1 week (it is #2 of 5 total appointment for the home study), and a couple in early August. We should have our homestudy, be licensed and finalized by the end of August! Wishful thinking. ๐ THEN… our waiting really starts since we are adopting from the state! Hang in there… and can’t wait to read the next blog. You’re getting close!
Mandy says
That is awesome! I love to hear other adoption stories! Our real wait hasn’t even started yet either! Once we get on the Philippines wait list it could be a year and a half. Hoping not, but it’s possible. Good luck to you!!

Ugh! We are seeking a healthy infant caucasian/mixed male… so unless we open up our preferences… it could be 2 years here too! I am hoping it happens a lot sooner tho. I have been having a lot of positive thinking lately, that it could happen for us soon!
Mandy says
I will definitely be praying for you guys! Isn’t it funny how we cann’ predict God’s timing? I try so hard to be in control ALL THE TIME. I just need to realize that He is in control. My life would be much easier! Haha!
Sonja says
Y’all came to me in my prayers last night which I thought was kind of strange but must’ve been for a reason. Now I know! Hang in there ๐ Good things are happening!
Mandy says
How cool is that?! Thanks for thinking and praying for us Sonja!! It means a lot!

I can’t even imagine how hard it is to sit and wait for all these answers that are totally going to change your life and your family!! I don’t have any patience either, especially when my whole heart is invested in something. But I am glad that things are now finally moving along and I honestly can’t wait till that last picture frame is filled ๐
Jill says
That stinks. I’m sorry. It will come together soon. I’m sure.
On a side note. Are those frames in your hallway organic bloom frames? If not, where did you get them?
Mandy says
Thank you! I got the frames at Hobby Lobby! I am not sure the brand name.
