World dominators – year two. Ha!
Maybe you recall last year when I wrote about this funky little conference named “World Domination Summit”. No?
You’re probably more likely to remember when I said we wanted Voodoo Donuts so incredibly bad, but the line was out the door and required you to stand around and wait for at least 2 hours. #nothankyou
This year, we hadn’t even left the Portland airport to head to our hotel when some of our friends text us that they were in line at Voodoo Donuts and would be willing to get us some. So even though last year was a donut fail…this year? Was a win!
Not gonna lie. I don’t get all the hype.
They were just donuts and frankly, I like Krispy Kreme better. But at least I can say I tried it, right?
Our friends, Bob and Linda, who we meet up with quite often at conferences (her husband is a personal finance blogger with Jeff) were also in Portland and they had their newly adopted son, Alden.
I loved being able to meet and spend time with him and see Linda and Bob as parents. They started their adoption process a little after us…so seeing them HOLD their child in their arms really does give me so much hope!
Plus, Bob’s such a natural, hey? Ha! I love his version of adult conversion while holding baby. #interesting
I joke…that if I wasn’t such a small town girl? I might move to Portland. The downtown area is one of my favorite places to visit. Probably because they have more restaurants than any other city I’ve ever been too.
And I like to eat.
And Jeff Rose likes to juice. Which is even more reason Portland rocks.
Overall, this is still — HANDS DOWN — my favorite conference to attend. Mainly because it’s a ton of online entrepreneurs all in one place. And these people aren’t just people who are talking the talk…they are walking the walk.
I always leave World Domination Summit MEGA inspired.
An old college dance team member and friend moved to Portland recently and so… we met for lunch during one of my conference breaks! It’s been over 10 years since we’ve seen each other and it was so fun getting to catch up and spend time together.
Of course, the best part about Portland and WDS? It’s a 3 day break from parenthood. Our hotel was directly across from Nordstrom, Starbucks AND an ENTIRE shopping center.
The hubs and I had already decided we would be cutting back on the number of conferences we attend next year, but… World Domination Summit? Will 100% still make the “still going” list.
Have you been to Portland?

I was surprised by how much I loved Portland when I went to visit a few years ago! The atmosphere is just so cool and laidback. Voodoo Donuts are definitely over hyped, Krispy Kreme is wayyy better. I’m hoping to make it to WDS next year!

I grew up outside in the suburbs of Portland. It’s not a bad city, I am just not a city girl lol! Lots of great places to eat and tons of family stuff to do. But oh the constant rain 9 months out of the year gets old really quick!
Honestly voodoo donuts isn’t that great in my opinion either. But it seems to be a big thing with a lot of people.
Glad you had a great time visiting!
