Hey hey hey, my favorite peeps. I’m back today sharing a tutorial on how I took an old canvas I wasn’t using and made it perfectly match my son’s big boy room.
If you get overwhelmed by all those Pinterest DIY projects that look so dang complicated? Get excited because THIS project…even my five year old could pull off.
You may remember my canvas makeover tutorial that I shared and welp…this is just another example of what can be done with an old canvas and a stencil. You can see I started with the canvas above on the left.
A decent looking canvas one would argue. But I have had it for over 8 years and frankly, I was tired of it. It sat in my youngest child’s closet for at least 2 years and I almost sent it to Goodwill. Until I realized that this is a perfect canvas to re-do! DUH!
I started by spray painting the entire canvas orange {to match my 5 year olds room}. I had to give it a few coats to cover up the square boxes.
I let that dry for about half a day and then I began to stencil little transportation vehicles on to it with a cream colored craft paint and a foam roller.
There really wasn’t a lot of planning involved when I started this canvas makeover and when I got to the right side and bottom of the canvas I realized that I didn’t have room to do another row of trucks. Dilemma!
I busted out some painters tape and decided I would just add cream stripes to the side and bottom. I didn’t measure…I just eye-balled it.
I figured, hey…worst case is it looks bad and I spray paint the whole thing orange again and start over, right?
Luckily it didn’t look bad! Woot woot!
Again, you can use any stencil and any paint to do this project. The options are endless!
I chose the transportation stencil because it matched my son’s big boy room perfectly {as you can see below}.
Do you have any old canvas prints that are sitting in a closet? Maybe it’s time you busted them out and gave them an overhaul, hey?

wow, that was actually something I could manage to do! Great idea! Definitely have to try that, and perhaps rather soon also, because we desperately need something to brighten up a big white wall in our livingroom.

Hi, I was wondering what the name was to the Valspar orange spray paint? Also, as I was looking through your Home Tour in your living room I was wondering where you got your side table by your sectional and is it a Forest side table?
