This is not just a bench.
It’s the “get on the bench” bench. Do you guys have something like this? A place where you round up your kids to get their shoes on before you head out the door?
This is our place. It’s our bench. Made custom by my dad (of course).
Every single morning before we leave the house I yell, “Boys, go get on the bench please!”
I have many bench stories I could tell you. Because, you see, this “bench” is not that big. It requires them to sit RIGHT next to eachother. You would think two loving brothers would just eat that up! In a perfect world they would be sitting there peacefully while I put their shoes on. Telling eachother jokes and laughing.
But this bench, is about to become the death of me.
It always starts out pretty on the bench. Smiles. Happiness.
But, it quickly turns in to the MOVE OVER your too close to me bench. I think you can see who’s in charge here. Bents needs his space. And if he doesn’t get it…yes he will pull your hair.
And before it’s all over…they’ve collided heads at least twice and it’s full break down mode.
It doesn’t make for a easy exit out of the house.
I think we need a new morning routine. Either that or a bigger bench.

hahahaha- you know what’s funny? I was looking for a bench (or a hall tree as I learned they are called) last night. I need one because when the kids come home from school there are backpacks, coats, and shoes EVERYWHERE! I cannot stand it. I need an unloading dock… haha

Ha ha! That is hilarious and awful. And I love everything about it. I guess because it reminds me of my siblings. Always wanting to kill each other!

Your dad is so talented! Too bad he isn’t in Texas. I hope it gets better. I would say maybe it’s because they are so close in age, but mine are 5 yrs apart and we have the same problems!

I can see this being us in a few years. My boys are 5 months and 2 1/2 right now and getting all three of us out the door and on time in the morning NEVER happens. I keep thinking “maybe it will be easier when they are a little bigger and can do more for themselves”. haha not so much. Love the post and your bench.

At first I thought you were going to say this was the “naughty bench” where time-outs happen! Ha! (I want one of those artistic coat racks that’s above your bench!)
