Let’s just talk about something I’m not proud about, shall we? It has to do with Halloween and costumes.
You see, this year, I bought P Man’s Buzz Lightyear costume at my neighbor’s yard sale for $3. Talk about a great deal, right?!
At that point I had my mind set on Bents being Woody. So when we went to San Antonio last month we hit up the Disney Store and I found the cutest Woody costume. Oh, it was soooo cute.
It was also so pricey. $49.99 to be exact.
Every part of my frugal-savvy-smart-spending mentality went out the door when I saw it. I just pictured Bents in the cute little yellow button up shirt with the red bandanna. So what did I do? I bought it, of coures.
Only because I thought….SJ can wear it next year. My excuse for almost anything I buy for the big boys. Ha!
Bents wasn’t near as excited as I thought he’d be when I brought it home. In fact, he told me, on more than a few occasions, “I no wunta be woodee!”
What??? I swear he loved Woody and now all the sudden he says he doesn’t want to be him. I really thought I could talk him in to it. I even let him watch Toy Story 1, 2, AND 3 on repeat one Saturday.
But the true tale came last Friday night when the boys had to dress up for our church Halloween party. It was going well….Gigi was over and she was helping Bents get his Woody costume on.
He wore the shirt for about 6.37 seconds and then he demanded it come off immediately.
And I do mean demanded.
“I NO WUNTA BE WOODEEEEEEE! I NO WUNTA BE WOODEE!”
“NOOOOOOOOOOO!”
Talk about a drama king.
So I did what I had to do to keep him happy and I said, “You don’t have to be Woody sweetie.” Even though in the back of my mind I was thinking, “I paid $50 for that Woody costume and you’re going to wear it!”
Halloween is suppose to be fun not a fight, right? But, dang, come on child….I paid good money for that costume!
I guess I should just feel lucky that he ended up putting on ANY costume at all, even if it was a has-been costume straight from P’s closet.
Can you guess what he chose?
Lesson learned: Never visit the Disney Store again during Halloween season. It is never ok to spend $49.99 on a 2 year olds costume, I don’t care how cute it is. Phew.

HAHA! I learned a long time ago with my oldest to never pick out his Halloween costume because he will never like it. I am enjoying that my 17 month old doesn’t know any better so I can pick what she is but the 9 year old…we will always be making the dreadful {always hour+ long} trip to the Halloween store while he walks around aimlessly deciding!! =) Happy Halloween!

I am going through the same thing, only I sew, so I was making the costume. Not that it’s expensive to use scrap fabric, in fact it’s free! But when I make 1 full, and 2 half costumes, and my 3 year old refuses to wear any of them, it’s a waste of time, and time is money. Right? Turns out, he ended up wearing 1 that I made {a lobster} for Boo at the Zoo but the true test will be tomorrow, for dress up to preschool day and then beggars night. I would put good money on him refusing to be a lobster again:)

I can totally relate to this – both the Halloween costume drama and the buying something because next year the baby can wear it!

My guess is Handy Manny! Man, I’m so excited for Halloween this year and chose a theme our whole family could do (and of course was costly for mine and the hubs) and she’s still too little to protest!… But I’m sure as the years go on, I’m going to have less say-so over the costume choices. And as the kids get older, they get more expensive :/.

Yes, dress her exactly like you want now because before long…she will want to be the opposite of whatever your idea is! LOL! Can’t wait to see your family costumes!

Hahaha! Bents cracks me up! You have to admit, he made a pretty cute Handy Manny though! 🙂
We actually had a similar experience this past weekend at Party City buying Griffin’s costume! I posted about it today! Our 2 year olds are both pretty opinionated!
