It’s true, a certain almost six year old lost his first tooth a few weeks ago. All-the-while he was soooo overly excited…his momma shed many many tears.
Why did I not realize that this stage of life comes so fast?
I thought I had at least a few more years before we started talking tooth fairy visits.
What I quickly realized after he jumped with joy from excitement…was that I had no idea how to become the tooth fairy.
Which is not good when your child looses their tooth approximately 43 minutes before bedtime.
And so, I wanted to share with y’all what I managed to bust out in the fastest tooth-fairy-comes-to-life-event ever documented. Ok, not ever.
But I’m a planner by golly. I need more notice. You hear me teeth?!
Thankfully one of my best friends read my facebook status that evening…
…and no she didn’t give me the phone number of the closest laundry fairy.
But it just so happens that she made a free printable for occasions just like this. Ones where moms aren’t prepared for what seems to be a pretty huge milestone in a 5 year olds life.
It’s a good thing someone’s got it together. Phew.
I rushed over to her blog and downloaded the FREE tooth fairy printable…made in pink for girls and blue for boys {how’s that for uper-duper prepared}.
I was also extremely glad that some of my parents friends gifted my boys these adorable alligator tooth fairy pillows.
I never knew just how handy they would be.
I found them on Amazon for $14.99 here just in case you want to purchase them too!
Last thing I want to say to all you lovely parents out there who don’t like to carry cash on ya? Once your kid turns 5, you better start having a few dollar bills laying around. Or at least a coin.
If the tooth fairy showed up with the fake “reward bucks” I give out for good behavior…I would of had one very upset tooth fairy recipient.
Just sayin’.
We went with the big ole’ $5 bill and a quarter. I included the quarter because P Man kept telling me that the tooth fairy brings coins. I didn’t want to ruin his dreams.
And why $5 instead of $1? Because this sista had no dollar bills on her. True story.
Because this is a huge milestone in my soon-to-be 1st graders life, I had to document with a video. Of course.

Maybe it’s my painfully practical side but the tooth fairy visits each child until the 10th tooth falls out. She wrote a letter to that effect at some point. Luckily, each of the kids have been at or beyond the time when they still believed but the younger ones understood why the tooth fairy didn’t come, say, for the 13 yo after she was past the 10th tooth.
You’ll also find that $1 is as exciting as a $5. Maybe the $5 can be for the first and the last.
Enjoy this time!

I have to share this story with you–my chilis are 13 and 9 now, so this is way, way back, so far back it took me awhile to find it, but when I read your story, I knew you would appreciate it. 🙂 I’m so excited for you guys-and I’m so relieved that I am not the only one “unprepared” for visits!! 😉

My Grandma is a children’s author and wrote a book about losing teeth, Caraboose: The Tooth Fairy Moose, when my brother and I were losing teeth….over 10 years ago! The book is about a moose that takes the place of the tooth fairy when she goes on vacation. The moose shows you where to put your tooth so he can find it. I think your boys would love reading this fun book! She just recently had it published and is now available on Amazon.com. Here is the link to the book. http://www.amazon.com/dp/1466317337/ref=cm_sw_r_fa_awd_tSc3rb0VHYM93

I give 5 for the first visit then a gold coin for the rest. So if it is the second visit they get 2 gold 1 dollars, then three gets three and so on!Love the alligator idea!
