J was coaxed by his friend Tom in to running the Urbanathlon in Chicago. If you know my husband…he is “superfit” (literally that is what his nickname is), but he doesn’t run…EVER.
He is a crossfitter. Crossfit and running…two totally different things.
The urbanathlon is a 9 mile race consisting of 6 obstacles in between.
NINE MILES.
9 miles may not seem that far to you marathoner’s, but to a man who NEVER runs…phew…9 miles is FOREVER.
And this was our initial response to NINE MILES…
Especially since he didn’t train. 🙂
Yea. “Superfit” thought he could pull this whole thing off…without training. Cocky of him, heh?!
Kelly (Tom’s wife) and I only went for the “festival”. Well, and to watch our husbands kick butt!
Since it was a weekend without the kids we had the chance to do a little shopping! And I even got to meet up with my college bestie, Shannon!! I haven’t seen her in forever!
The boys before the race began sporting their race numbers.
Hubby and I!
Getting warmed up before it was time to take off! I love that our hubby’s both had on orange. They were so cute together!
Kel and I wanted to see the boys start…finish…and do at least one of the obstacles. We would have loved to see more of the obstacles, but there was no way to get to each obstacle in time to see them do it.
We decided to walk to Soldier Field to see them to do obstacle 3.
They were suppose to have to go over these cars….
and then get over a bunch of marine hurdles (they were tall). But, by the time our guys got to the cars (they were in the 6th heat) the car windshields were cracking and someone went through a window. They stopped letting them go over the cars (THANK GAWD) and just had them do the hurdles. DANGEROUS!
I really wished we could have seen obstacle 4, running the stairs at Soldier Field, but they wouldn’t let spectators in the stadium. Darn.
Here’s my hubby when we spotted him coming up on obstacle 3, giving the “peace” sign! I was glad to see he was in such high spirits! haha!
I caught J coming over the wall before the finish line. That’s him in the orange about to jump down.
And here he is about to cross the FINISH LINE!
AND IT’S OVER! With a smile on his face and all!
They both did a GREAT job and finished under 2 hours (which was their goal)!! I think they have already decided they are signing up again next year.
J was slightly sore IMMEDIATELY. I think his first words to me when he finished were…”MEDIC”! haha! Maybe next year he will train before he just decides to run 9 miles.
CONGRATS J AND TOM! So proud of you both!!

It looks like you guys had a GREAT time!!! And way to go Jeff and Tom for finishing!! As a new runner than can barely run 5Ks, I am SUPER impressed that he ran 9 FREAKING MILES without training. That is superfit 🙂 Love the sign you guys made…but not as much as I love that pic of you and MARIO!!! “Yummy” doesn’t even cut it 🙂
