The hubby and I spent last weekend in Jacksonville, Florida for a friend’s destination wedding. It’s the first destination wedding I have ever attended.
I was pretty stoked because my EXTREMELY generous parents agreed to keep all THREE boys for 4 days for us. What!!!
I envisioned lots of beach time, laying out, swim suits, reading books, and just CHILL-AXING by the water with NO kids.
Then I looked at the weather forecast for Jacksonville for our trip dates and…
DUN DUN DUN!
Fifty degrees and raining was not what I had in mind when I bought our plane tickets. It quickly ruined my dream of laying by the beach, kid-less, as I took a nap.
We were about to board the plane and I mentioned to my husband, “How are we getting from the airport to the hotel?”
His response was pretty typical and one thatย {in hindsight}ย I should have saw coming.
Him: “I don’t know.”
No big deal because I thought we could just take a cab or a shuttle. So I called our hotel to ask about shuttle service. What I quickly learned is that the hotel was 36 miles from the airport. Which meant…no shuttle service and VERY expensive cab fare.
Lovely.
So literally, seconds before take-off, I was renting a car. I love when they ask me, “When will you be picking the car up?”
Ummm, in one hour. LOL!
I’m surprised I didn’t get kicked off the plane for not turning off all electronic devices before we left the gate. It was a close call.
Even funnier? Our rent-a-car dealer upgraded us from the Ford Focus to a Mustang once I told him I drove a mini-van. I guess he thought if we were kid-less…we should have a good time! ๐ And y’all thought there were no perks to owning a mini. Psssst.
Mustangs don’t do much for me. But the hubs? Was beside himself.
Especially after he learned that our directions were taking us to A1A Beach Front Avenue.
In the words of Jeff Rose, “I can now check that off my bucket list Vanilla Ice!”
Rolling in my 5.0 – check
Down..
A1A Beach Front Avenue – check
Oh my!
Despite the weather we still managed to make the best of it. I guess we could have downgraded our Ocean Front view hotel room.
It probably wasn’t worth the extra few bucks when the weather wasn’t cooperating, but o-well.
My husband is the worst photo-bomber ever.
I had my first experience eating lobster. I have had lobster before, but just the tail. NEVER an entire lobster.
I was shocked when they brought it to my table. I truly thought I was getting a lobster tail not the entire dang animal.
It was delicious, but not worth the work I had to go through to get the meat out. Plus, the fact that it was staring at me…not cool.
Still creeps me out just looking at this picture.
The wedding was outside and I really didn’t pack accordingly when it came to wedding attire. I had to improvise and add a cardigan over a long sleeve dress.
But I’m telling ya…my legs were still frozen. Luckily I had my North Face coat with me and I used it as a blanket during the ceremony.
The rain held off until the outdoor part of the wedding was over so I was very thankful for that. The only thing worse than a freezing cold beach wedding would have been a freezing cold WET beach wedding.
And despite the uncooperative weather…the bride & groom were still gorgeous and as happy as ever.
Let me just end this post with the exact reason that I don’t get too excited to hang out with my husband and his friends….
Oh yea, I have to prepare myself for days to be with this crew.
When they are reunited…you never know what may go down. Including their “Backstreet Boys” photo opp.
ย **Reminder: Stop & Smell the Roses Vlog Link Up is THIS Wednesday! Hope to see you there!

Well, now doesn’t that sound bitter. I would just enjoy the time you had away since not many get that. Sounds like it could have been a great weekend, travel plans and weather be darned.

First, for some reason it shocks me that A1A Beach Front Avenue really is a road lol! And as I was reading it, I rapped it in my head without realizing what song it was from until you wrote it out ha ha!! Now I can’t stop singing (er…rapping) that line in my head! Love the pics, and that mustang is SWEET. I remember pulling up with the hubby for a weekend getaway at a really really nice, upscale hotel in Downtown Minneapolis…in a minivan. You could just see the sympathy in the valet drivers eyes!! Great post ๐

Our wedding last year was on the beach of Jekyll Island GA which is about 45 minutes from Jacksonville! Of course it was in July though, BUT a couple days before the Jekyll Island facebook page posted a picture of water spouts just off the island! Something I did not want to see days before the wedding! We ended up having BEAUTIFUL weather! We went to Hilton Head and Tybee Island in February and it was freezing on the beach at Hilton Head. Tybee was a little bit warmer. I can’t wait to get back to the beach!
