It all started with iPhone pictures that I took of my Master Bedroom nearly 4 years ago when I was on my lunch break from my Corporate job. I uploaded those images, which were less than perfect (especially since I probably had some ancient version of the iPhone back then) and I hit publish. Little did I know that within a week those pictures would be my most pinned images on my site.
I’m serious when I say the image quality was the worst. See for yourself. Then see the updated pics I did.
Big difference from the iPhone images to the camera images.
I was dumbfounded. Not because I didn’t love the bedroom. But the images were incredibly awful. LOL! Clearly I decorated the old bedroom before I knew a dang thing about photography.
So even though I know y’all loved the old master bedroom…it was dark and dreary. I wanted something bright and cheerful.

I enlisted my dad (of course) to do an entire wall of board and batten for me. I AM IN LOVE with how it turned out.
Every time that man does a project…I am in awe. He’s truly so talented.
I took notes of everything he did and I really want to share a tutorial with y’all…anyone interested in that? It’s hard because the dimensions would obviously not be the same unless your wall was the exact same as mine (which is unlikely). But I thought about sharing the trim pieces we used and a basic tutorial.

Another change to the room that made a huge impact was changing the position of my bed. I cornered it.
Yea, who’d a thunk it.
My friend Katie had an interior design person to her house one day and they told her to corner her bed. It gave me the urge to try it in our new bedroom and I must say…those interior design people really know a thing or two.

I was still dying to use the “love” mirror somewhere so above this Pier I chest was just perfect!
There’s a source list at the bottom of the post if you want to know where anything came from.

If you look closely, you’ll notice that we painted the ceiling a darker grey and added crown molding. Also via my dad.
The contrast between the light grey walls and dark grey ceiling is amplified with the white crown molding…and I heart that.

Most everything else in this bedroom makeover was stuff I already had, but was using in other rooms (minus the bedding).
I like to go around my house and steal things off the wall when I do makeovers. It keeps things new and fun…. andddddd free.

I even steal furniture from other rooms.
Like this old nursery glider? I mean, I’m sad I don’t have a baby to rock anymore, but happy I can repurpose the glider. Can I get a what-what!

Now when I walk in my bedroom it feels bright instead of dark.
I will admit, this has helped me not want to stay in bed all day everyday. Ha!

There you have it. The new master bedroom.
Let’s see how long it will stay this way before I’m ready for a change. LOL!
I tend to change my mind often. Hey…if you’re a woman? You know what I’m preaching.

I’d love for you to PIN the new bedroom! I doubt I’ll ever surpass the hundreds of thousands of pins from my old master bedroom post…but a girl can dream, right?!

Corner shelves: video tutorial on How to Build a Corner Shelf in 7 minutes

Love it!! I noticed the positioning of the bed right away. I would never have thought to do that either. I immediately thought about going home & moving ours into the corner. 😉 Love the corner shelves behing the bed!
Hi Mandy,
Your new bedroom looks amazing! I have been wanting to paint my bedroom, Silver Dust by Behr, which is a white with a small tint of gray. I love the idea even more because it is easier to bring in bold pops of color with a new bedspread, curtains, or other accessories. I’m studying design and the house gets a lot makeovers! Ha!
Beautiful colors in this bedroom. I have a bedroom with yellows and greys and this gives me some ideas… I’ve incorporated some gold and purple as accent colors in the room, too. I just LOVE the love that is framed!
I really love how bright it is now! I love having the bedrooms bright and cheery because it makes me happy and want to take on the day. Otherwise I want to sleep all day lol!
Where are the pillows on the bed from? Love it!!!
I was wondering…what size is your bed….king or queen?
Mandy, I love the lighter and brighter bedroom! Your dad did a wonderful job on the wall. You are a very lucky girl!
I just got my bedroom completely redone like yours and now you go and change it! Now I love the new style. Guess it’s time to start redecorating again!! My husband is going to loose his mind, lol!
I like the board & batten walls, gray ceiling, and crown molding. I was wondering if you can take a picture of what it looks like as you walk in the bedroom now versus before. I guess I’m having a hard time visualizing the whole bedroom’s layout. It may not be possible to take the picture but I thought I would ask anyway.
The wall is great. Love your color scheme too!! Have to be honest in that I don’t care for the bed positioning. Every time I see a bed in the corner, makes me feel like the room is too small for it to be any other way.
I feel the SAME way! I LOVE everything about this room EXCEPT the corner thing. Maybe I am just old school. I just took a poll in my office and all agreed on non-cornering a bed. Seems 80’s, like it needs a brass bed and mauve carpet LOL But I totally get how it would give the room a different feel if that is what Mandy was shooting for. Great job!
Ok the bedroom looks great but I have one problem. I just redecorated mine last year based on inspiration from your old bedroom (and I never noticed the pictures being bad but then again I am still learning).
beautiful! it’s so bright and cheery!! love it!
Hi! I love this room makeover! I see you left the site for the duvet cover, but when I click on it it goes to their main page and I can’t find you bedding there. What brand is it? Thanks!
Where is your nursery glider from?
I love, love, love this! We’re moving soon so I get to redecorate everything and I can’t wait! (Redecorating is one of the main loves in my life.) Everything turned out beautifully, but that wall your dad built! Gorgeous!
I love the new room. My master bedroom is in dire need of a makeover but the curses of owning an older home mean money goes toward needed things rather than wanted things at the moment. Great job!
hello Mandy I just subscribed to your blog. I loved your past master bedroom and actually started to makeover mine as well. May I ask if you have any of the decor left that I could purchase. I feel like I’m missing so much and would love to purchase your old wall decor lamps bench etc…. Thank you
Emily Tiso
I have this very same bed. Love the room!
You’ve done an amazing job decorating the room! It truly looks way better than before.I love bright spaces in light tones! Thank you for sharing.
Love this design look! My favorite is all the patterns and designs it gives it a chic look with a touch of modern feeling. Love it!
*glances around smallish bedroom* Darn! I love the idea of cornering the bed, but sadly my room is much too small to do any such thing. Hm…does a bedroom have to have more than a bed in it? Probably…but your room looks wonderful. 🙂
The bedroom is absolutely beautiful right along w/all of your colors. I’ve been putting all my beds in corners since 1996. I always believed the bed was to be the focal point of the room.
