I have been REALLY wanting to purchase this….
…from PBK. But with a price tag of nearly $1,500.00 (not including tax and shipping) I just couldn’t manage to click the buy button. Especially after I just bought the chair from CB.
For a girl who ADORES organization this seems like the PERFECT item for my kids playroom.
Then I started thinking. Wait, my dad could totally make this for me! When I took him the idea…he was ALL over it! ๐ He even went as far as drawing up some different ideas!
And literally, within ONE day of purchasing all of the materials…he came up with this!!!
An idea of how it will look with baskets.
We got all of the materials for $460!!! A far cry from $1,500+.
Originally I wanted to paint it WHITE. But, now…I am starting to really wonder if I should have him paint it WHITE or stain it???
So.
THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN! I need your opinions. PLEASE!!
Here is the space it is going to fit in (the wall the clock is on). It will actually go wall to wall. He custom built it to fit the space.
The french doors are WHITE and I am still thinking WHITE may be the best option. But I am curious to see what you think!!
Should we paint it WHITE or stain it?
PLEASE HELP ME!
And kudos to my dad for being such a rockstar! I mean, really, who can bust out something so cool in one day! I’ve got multiple projects on my list for him next.

I vote for white! And your dad does rock!

First of all that is amazing!! What a talented dad you have! My dad likes to build things too so I will definitely have to remember this post when we need some shelves added to our house ๐
OK, now onto the color. I vote white! I think it will add a nice pop against the wall and will look so bright and clean. I love the idea of staining but think it might look too dark next to the navy wall. The molding is white, trim is white and doors are white so in my mind white would look great in there!
I can’t wait to see how it all turns out! It’s going to look amazing!!

I vote for white. I think it will look more like a built in cabinet in your room. It looks great by the way! Also, you might like the site knock off wood.com. It has building plans for all of PB/PBK furniture.

I second the white vote! Your dad did a great job.

I think I might be voting for white as well. I usually go for the stained look, but I really think the room lends itself to white! Although I don’t think you can go wrong either way. Your dad did a fantastic job…..it looks great!!

Team white here all the way. Awesome job dad!

I love PBK but I also couldn’t spend $1,500+ on a wall unit. Your dad is amazing!! I’m jealous that you have him at your disposal. If it were me, I would definitely paint the wall unit white. I think it would look great with the white french doors. Either way I’m sure it will look awesome in the space. Can’t wait to see which you choose.

Your dad is awesome! It looks even better than Pottery Barn. I vote for white. It’ll keep the room looking crisp!

What an amazing job your dad did. My vote is for white.

Sounds like it must be white to me!!! Dad.

White ๐

I love the style of the PBK!!! I think u should make over the room for the boys to look a little less ultra modern and more pottery barnish. I can’t say I’m a fan of the dark blue walls. I would totally change the color and do the stain on the awesome organizational book shelf/storage piece your dad built!

love it! it’s beautiful! go dad! i vote white because it will make your baskets and anything else pop!

That is amazing!!! I am super jealous!!
I wish I was crafty like that!
It is going to look so cute. Can’t wait to see pix’s!!

I think white is perfect for that “built-in” look. I might distress it a little. I would also try to anchor it to the wall or the floor for safety just in case 2 little boys decide at some future time to climb to the top of the piece!! ๐ Your dad is amazing – and I bet this is better made than PB’s. xoxo

I would totally go white. I have white trim and white french doors and it is my dream to have some white furniture (right now I have espresso colored tables in our living room and a merlot colored bedroom set). I would love to get something white into our den or office. Can’t wait to see what it looks like once it is painted.

Wow! Your Dad did a great job! I am so jealous. I would love to have something like that but my husband is not handy at all. I would paint it white to match the rest of the trim in the room.

Thats an awesome built in, my vote is for distressed white…to mesh in with the rest of your decor…hey you could use the bittersweet chocolate by glidden in a glaze, like 8 parts to 1….that would really tie in ๐ good luck
