If you know anything about us…you know that we are firm believers in having our children sleep in their own beds.
Nothing against people who don’t follow that same philosophy, but for us personally, we like to have our alone time and sleep in peace.
So far it has worked out nicely because P has always slept much better in his own bed. When he has slept in our bed (the few times we have allowed it)…he doesn’t really sleep much. In fact, he just tosses and turns and is never comfortable.
However, now that we have moved him to his BIG BOY bed (and he can move about on his own terms)…he thinks he needs to sleep by mommy. I haven’t given in. Because I know the second I do…there will be no turning back.
But I have to show you how he falls asleep each night…
…in the doorway of his room.
We have a rule: NO CROSSING THE “POLE” (aka the doorway)…and since our rooms are directly across from eachother, and he can see my bed from his doorway, he ALMOST never falls asleep in his actual bed…but instead in the doorway…just shy of the imaginary “pole” he is not to cross…so that he can see me.
He usually spends a good 30 minutes talking to me from there. “Hi mommy. What you doing mommy? You going nite nite mommy? Hi mommy.” And on and on and on until he talks himself to sleep.
Don’t worry, I don’t let him sleep in the doorway all night. When I know he’s good and out…we move him to the bed.

Is there any way you could move his bed near the doorway, so he can see you from the bed? Or would that take way too much moving around to accomplish?

Oh my goodness. That sweet boy~ But I agree with you. When ours has problems falling asleep, I would get into their bed and they would then fall asleep and that was that. Such a mistake to allow them to sleep in the bed with the parents. xoxo

I applaud you for not letting him sleep with you guys. Brooke is almost 4 and 1/2 and still sleeps with us. It was cute at first, but we’ve dubbed her “CB”. I’ll let you guess what that means. She peed in our bed the other night. Not cool. 🙂
