Last weekend we attended FINCON.
Oh FINCON!
Otherwise known as “The Financial Blogger Conference“. Also noted as one of the first conferences I ever attended 3 years ago.
Funny, right…since that’s not even my niche.
But, I always go in support of the hubs. This is HIS niche. And he completely nerds out and LOVES this conference like no other.
*I’m not calling anyone a nerd here…except my husband.*
Three years ago I met one of the sweetest girls on the planet. Like me, she was there in support of her husband {Bob from Christian PF}. You may have heard me refer to her as Rose a la Mode. That’s her blog and social media name.
Linda and I now look forward to FINCON every year as a “wives unite” opportunity. And we love to attend a few sessions, support the husbands during their presentations and then head off to the mall for some SHOPPING!
Yea, I said that.
But come on, I never have the chance to shop alone. Without children trying to jump out of strollers and pull down the clothes racks.
And it’s glorious.
This year FINCON was in St. Louis which is the closest big city to where we live. It was only a short 2 hour drive.
I really liked that we didn’t have to go far, but Jeff was rather disappointed. I think he was hoping it was gonna be in Hawaii.
I wouldn’t complain if they changed the location to Hawaii for next year. I could give up my shopping time for some ocean time.
We were so thankful that my parents agreed to watch the boys while we went! Sometimes agreeing to watch 3 wild children is more than you want to say yes to.
But they happily kept them…and the boys didn’t want to come back home.
They carved pumpkins, played outside for hours on end, ate steak for dinner and stayed up late.
It was a rude awakening when they had to leave Gigi and Poppy’s house.
My husband was a speaker again this year and he did an awesome job! There was lots of practicing going on which is out of character for him.
He’s usually a wing-it type of guy. I don’t know that it made him any less nervous to have practiced 80 times…but it sure helped my nerves. 🙂
Each year at FINCON they have what’s called the Plutus Awards. It’s a lot like the Emmy’s except it’s not. Ha!
Jeff was nominated in a few different categories and took home three different awards including BLOG OF THE YEAR!
I’m sure you can tell that he was a little excited! Rightfully so. He works very hard at what he does so I was proud that he was recognized and honored to be there as his wife.
Speaking of.
He was kinda popular.
In a can-you-please-stop-talking-to-everyone-we-walk-by-I-need-to-get-to-the-hotel-room-before-I-fall-asleep-in-the-lobby kind of way.
This was Bob poking some fun at him.
“Hurry, hide under my jacket so no one will see you.”
I don’t know why I was surprised because this happened last year too. My husband is just a talker. And he’s outgoing and loves social settings. He was eating up all the attention.
It was slightly crazy to see so many people gushing over him. He even had a few guys tell him they had a “man crush” on him. I’m looking at you KC.
Don’t worry. Every time we were back in our hotel room {which was rare} I was sure to remind him that he is only popular 3 days out of the year.
There were so many amazing people we got to hang out with. Steve Chou from My Wife Quit Her Job is always one of my very favorites.
Mainly because he talks to me in “blog talk” and uses “ahem” in every sentence. Clearly making fun of me. Which is one way to my heart.
And who doesn’t love a dinner table full of bloggers throwing up the #hashtag sign? It’s the new thumbs up.
We got to spend lots of time with one of our favorites, Pat Flynn from Smart Passive Income. He’s been a huge inspiration for us…especially in what we are doing with Dollars & Roses.
Plus, he’s Filipino. And he looks like Jeff’s twin. Ha!
I’ve actually never noticed it, but Pat’s wife pointed it out and then after their “O” face picture…I think they may have been separated at birth. Minus the fact that Jeff is way taller.
Of course, I wanted an “O” face picture with Pat too. Let’s be fair.
However, I don’t think we are anywhere near twins.
For the record, I stayed up WAY passed my bedtime Thursday, Friday AND Saturday night.
My husband was proud of me. Even if I was falling asleep at the table by Saturday night.

Hey Mandy,
Thanks for the shout out! It was fun hanging out with you and Jeff this past weekend. I’m still a little worried about introducing you to my wife and the financial damage it might potentially cause. But we should get together next time you are in California.
Can I get an AMEN?

Definitely need to make it out one of these days and become part of this wives club. If it means going shopping and hanging out while the men “work”, I think I can manage.
Also FINCON in Hawaii sounds awesome. Maybe you can get your very popular hubby to suggest it…
Can I get a WOOT, WOOT? =)

I saw you guys at the conference but didn’t get a chance to say hi! Maybe next year 🙂 I’ll try to let you guys get to the hotel room though, because I know sleep is a very rare thing at these events. I didn’t get a chance to see Jeff’s talk live, but it is on the top of my list when the Virtual Pass comes out!

Looks like you guys had a great time!

I just got back from attending one of my husband’s work conferences with him. I can totally relate and feel like I could sleep for days! 🙂

Hey Mandy,
I love your blog but this is my first time commenting (from all the way down in Auckland, New Zealand :). Just letting you know that Hawaii has the worlds largest open air shopping mall (called Ala Moana) and it’s amazing! It takes about three days to get around the whole thing. So, should the conference go to Hawaii you’ll be completely sorted on the shopping front 🙂

What a fun recap! Plus your pictures are amazing. Pat and Jeff do look alike especially with those O faces. Maybe that’s why both of them are killing it! Lucky you. Hope to make it out to FinCon14 and join in on the fun. Happy New Year!
