Well, here is the hubby’s second crack at a guest post on The House of Rose blog. (Here’s the first one, in case you missed it.) You know, the guy’s blog that you all left a comment on that said, “Your blog is really cool, but your wife’s is soooo better!” Yeah, that guy.
Anyway, wifey is a bit down tonight because she just got word that her grandfather Papa Kenny (“P.K.”) is not doing to well. He’s been battling illness for some time and recent events have taken its toll. We all know that he’s a fighter and we’ll be praying for him and his recovery. Pictured above is P.K. when he first met Little “P” last Thanksgiving. I think that’s the biggest smile I’ve seen on P.K.’s face. Well, other than when the Cubs beat the Cardinals, of course. He smiles pretty big then, too.
To honor him, I wanted to offer a poem that shares a granddaughter’s love for her grandpa. No, I did not write this. I’m clever, but not that clever. I thought this poem really hit home.
To P.K.: We will always love you!
Since I was a little child,
In all that I’ve been through;
You’ve always been my hero,
No one stood as tall as you.
You were the one who took the time,
To teach what I needed to learn;
The lessons in life you shared with me,
You shared with love and concern.
I loved you as a little child,
And now that I am grown;
I share those lessons you taught me;
With children of my own.
Generation to generation,
I’ll pass on your legacy;
I’ll tell of my loving Grandfather,
And all that you mean to me.

I’m so sorry to hear about your Grandpa. My Grandpa passed away when I was a freshman in high school and I only wish he could have seen me get married and have a baby. You are so lucky that your Grandpa has been around to share in all those special moments. You will have wonderful memories to last your life time 🙂
