Somehow when your boys turn five-ish they suddenly become obsessed with sports. It happened later with my oldest (he was almost 7 before “the change”), but MUCH younger with my middle son (he was only 5).
Every single “little kid” thing that you ever had for them? No longer cool.
They want it banished to the garage sale.
I had a hard time coming to terms with the thought that my little boys were no longer wanting little boy things. They requested things like: Matt Holiday cut-outs and Green Bay Packers wall decals. Gah.
Sometimes a mama’s little design heart has to give in and please her children. Even if it means, it’s not her style or her favorite theme.
It was hard at first…because I was never a sports loving kind of gal.
And the idea of having a sports themed bedroom? Bleck.
But, once I got over myself, ha, I am actually really loving how it’s coming together. And more importantly, THEY love how it’s coming together.
Let’s be honest. This is less about me and more about them.
Trophies, trophies and more trophies.
They think they are big time being able to display those puppies for the world – errrrr neighborhood boys – to see.
My dad built the Pottery Barn look alike bunk beds for them…. It makes the whole room!
I always thought bunk beds would be “cool”, but the second I spotted this design in the PBK magazine…
I knew I had to have Poppy replicate it. I think he even did it better!
Carpeted stairs? Way less injuries.
We’ve been finishing up the rest of this room over the last few days so I can’t wait to show you how it turned out!
Until then, if you have baby boys or toddler boys start preparing your mama heart now… One day they will want sports themed everything.

Your dad is a genius. If only I was so handy, or someone in my family were. That would be amazing. I love your house and am also a boy mom. I’d love for my kids to have a room like this!

Oh, I can so relate- haha! The boys, when they are small don’t have much opinion about their room design but wait til they hit their school years… and bam! Suddenly (it seems) they are all computer game, sports, & comic hero-minded and it MUST be strongly evident in their “space”. I’m actually in “design limbo” with my son, AJ’s room (going on nigh 3 years now… yikes!) and I’m also torn between what he’s into now and the design in my head.
LOVE what you and your Dad did with the boys room! I think it came together perfectly and glad the boys like it too. ๐

I feel like you JUST did the last boys’ bedroom makeover. ๐
But, Mama…this looks good! I’m with ya, sister. If (and when) my boys come to me saying they want a sports themed room, it might be a hard pill to swallow. {Easier if they want it to be football themed – once a coach’s daughter, always a coach’s daughter}.
I’m with Andrea, those vintage prints are great! Also, hats off to you Dad. Holy hannah the man is handy! ๐

Awesome Bunk Beds! I want to build the exact one for my daughter. How do I get a link to the plans. I clicked on the one provided but it was a dead link.
Thank you,
