About 2 weeks ago I got a very emotional envelope in the mail. One of those pieces of mail that makes you stop what you are doing…open it up…and CRY!
Happy tears, of course!
Although, don’t get me wrong. I have definitely had pieces of mail that made me cry sad tears {tax bill}.
One of my very best friends {someone I consider a sister}, Amy, is getting married September 2013.
Her and I have been friends sisters since college. We danced together on the college dance team and lived together for most of our time at SIU-C.
People often made fun of us because we did everything the same. Ha!
I was hoping that she would ask me to be in her wedding. In all honesty, I wasn’t sure if she was having a big wedding/small wedding…big wedding party/small wedding party?? I had no idea.
We kept texting back and forth about dress choices, shoes, barrettes…but she never said anything about being in the wedding.
And then I got this in the mail…
A bridesmaid book!
AND…do you see this?
That is me. Mandy. Me.
I’m in there!
Except, that wasn’t the moment that made me cry. It was when I opened this part…
…when the tears started flowing!
I could not have been more emotional…in my car…on my way to Crossfit…crying like a baby.
I feel so honored that she asked me to be her Matron of Honor!
I have never held this title before! So…all of you experienced Maid/Matron of Honors…what advice do you have for me?
I’m already nervous about my speech! LOL!

I am going to be a maid of honor for the first time for my sister’s wedding in April 2013! I am so excited and nervous at the same time. I know that I will at least be hosting a bridal shower/luncheon for all the girls when it gets closer to the wedding. And also I will be involved with a lot of the preparations and decorations. This is a huge duty and a great honor! So excited!

I was a Maid of Honor last September and it was a huge honor. My best friend had her sister as her Matron, and me as her Maid. Duties were basically the same/split between us. We organized her shower and Bachelorette party, and then we both gave speeches at the wedding. You’ll be great! Keep the speech short but sweet. A few heartfelt/funny memories, some advice/wishes, and a toast, and you’ll be good to go!!!

So sweet! Love how creative that is! Do a Google search – you’ll find some good sources online and I know it will probably just come naturally to you! 😉

That is so sweet!! I love seeing people get creative with things like that! And you’ll be an awesome Matron of Honor – no worries! The fact that you’re already trying to figure everything out shows how much you care! 🙂
Amanda says
Call Char, she did great as my Maid of Honor.
Michelle says
Just do whatever the bride asks. And throw a kick ass shower so she feels spoiled. It’s a great honor and you’ll be great. It’s all about the bride!!
Michelle says
Just remember it is all about the bride. She asks; you say yes. She vents about the crazy ppl the grooms family want to invite; you listen. You hold a kick ass shower so she feels spoiled. And you hold her wedding dress up so she won’t pee on it on her wedding day. Oh, there is a little speech you give but keep it short and heartfelt and all will be well. Enjoy!!

My advise:
1. Memorize it; have notes handy in case you need them but don’t read!
2. Drink a glass of wine beforehand to calm the nerves.
3. If the Best Man is planning on being funny, ask to give your speech first so you don’t feel like you have to ‘follow’ what he just did.
4. Have a secret code between you and the bride; If something is wrong or if she is getting upset at someone/something the code can be a lifesaver and you can be there to keep her calm.
Being my sisters MOH was the most exciting, scary and amazing experience. You’ll do great and you’ll never forget it!

I was asked to be the Matron for my friends wedding on September 1, 2012. That’s about 2 weeks away…I think I’m more nervous than she is. I’ve been married for 7 years, and I feel like I’m getting married all over again. Basically, just be her right hand lady……The shower is next week and I just came in from purchasing prizes for games that are going to be played. Her sister thinks I’m crazy, but I want her to have that Kick a@@ shower because she deserves it. You will do fine…..like I said, just be there with for her…appointments, picking vendors, wedding shows….cake and caterer tastings…..all of that fuuuun stuff!!!! Good luck and have a blast!
