It’s not very often that I get to spend time with my best friend from college {Amy}. She lives 5 hours north of us and between the two of us… we have FIVE boys. Yes, FIVE boys and no girls.
Amy and I were roommates for most of my college days. She was one of my first friends that I met when I went to SIU and we were besties from the beginning. We danced on our college dance team together and were pretty much inseparable for four straight years. She is the sister that I never had!
A lot has changed since 2001 when we were spending the majority of our days at class and dance practice.
I think it’s safe to say that the majority of our time spent now…is playing cars and dressing up as superheros.
That’s a lot of little bodies added to the picture in just 8 short years. I am sure you can imagine now why it’s so hard to coordinate our schedules and visit one another.
I would be lying if I didn’t say I was a little nervous about having 5 boys, all around the same age, running around my house. I thought for sure I would have at least one broken lamp, a hole punched in the wall, and about 600 matchbox cars in my living room.
I was completely wrong though. The boys got along WAYYYYY better than I had ever hoped. And they kept each other entertained. Less Legos that I had to play. SCORE!
We have a mini basketball goal that hangs over our bathroom door in the main area of the house and that kept them busy for about 95% of the time they were visiting. Basketball INSIDE? Auntie Mandy’s house is the coolest! 😉
Well, that and the fact that I might have stocked the pantry with the best snacks known to man. You know, Cheez-Its, chocolate and cookies. OOPS!
This is probably my favorite take away from the entire weekend….the one of SJ freaking out. Listen, it’s his way or the highway and it took some time for our guests to be on board with that.
Initially they just looked at him and laughed. But they were quick to realize JUST GIVE THE KID WHATEVER HE WANTS AND MAKE HIM SHUT UP! Geez!
On Saturday we took all the boys bowling. Whoa nelly!
It’s safe to say you can imagine from the picture just how that bowling trip went down. Ahem.
I may or may not have made Amy and her boys participate in our family Harlem Shake video. Ummmm, yea. I might have even encouraged her to wear the donkey head.
Amy is getting married in September and I haven’t had the chance to meet her fiance yet. He had to work all weekend so he didn’t get to come with. But I am pretty sure he thinks we are slightly extremely strange. And either one of two things happened after he discovered the video on You Tube:
1. He was thanking his lucky stars that he had to work and didn’t get to come visit otherwise I may have made him throw on a costume and shake his booty…
OR
2. He has now forbidden Amy to be friends with my family.
I hope he doesn’t un-invite me to the wedding being the fact that I’m the matron-of-honor and all {well, me and another girl named Melissa – SHOUT OUT Melissa!}.
If you are reading this Chris, I apologize for the weirdness that you felt from watching your soon-to-be-wife dressed in a donkey hat dancing aimlessly around my living room. It won’t happen again, I promise.
It was quite possibly one of the most fun weekends we’ve had in a long time.
