This year for P’s FIFTH birthday we did a shark party!
I am pretty sure that we have had some type of “swim” themed party for him EVERY year. I am starting to run out of “pool party” themes. Ha!
It’s just so easy to do the pool thing when your child’s birthday is mid July AND you have a pool. You know?
It literally requires me to come up with ZERO games. ZERO activities. ZERO. Because swimming IS the game!
Genius!
For my table display, I used a blue table cloth from Party City and then added orange polka dot wrapping paper down the center to give it some color.
I ordered all my printables from Nellie Designs {who I found through Pinterest}. I found these adorable chalkboard treat tins in the Target $1 bin!!
I added a beach ball, sidewalk chalk, sunglasses, and a bag of skittles. Then I wrote each child’s name on the chalkboard label.
Bents wanted to make sure that he dressed appropriately for the shark party so he sported his shark shirt and swim trunks {Gap Kids}! I love this picture of him giving me his best shark face. Actually, I told him, “Make a face like the shark on your shirt.”
This is what I got…
Our local bakery made the cake to match his invites.
I knew I wasn’t going to be as picky about the cake because the cupcakes were the main attraction!
How stinkin’ FABULOUS are these shark cupcakes??? And, in case you are wondering, the ENTIRE thing is edible. Shark head and all!
The cupcake stand was made out of leftover Christmas boxes that I wrapped in wrapping paper.
We did most of our entertaining outside since the kids were in the pool 90% of the time. I would have done the cake & cupcake table outside too except I was afraid it would melt in the 105 degree weather!
I BEGGED P-Man to wear his cute shark trunks from Gap Kids…but, let’s be honest, five year olds have a mind of their own.
Even though he had previously wore them every time he was in the pool {and even claimed they were his “favorite” swim trunks EVER}…he refused to wear them the day of his party. Nice.
How can you not adore THESE cupcakes? AHHH!
I tried to keep his party smaller this year and only invited 12 of his best buds. By the looks of this picture…it doesn’t seem small. Ha!
In my defense…everyone that was there was in the pool. And 12 five year olds come with parents and siblings and really…12 turns in to 40 pretty darn quickly. Luckily it didn’t overwhelm P {crisis diverted}.
His “girlfriend” {Claire Bear} even traveled 2 hours to help celebrate! They may be the cutest couple ever.
Did you see that picture of my husband on the ladder? Nothing like getting a balloon stuck in the outdoor fan. OOPS! This will also be one of the only times you see my husband on a ladder.
Ahem.
Still can not believe my P is FIVE!
Hoping that I convinced him to wish that he always lived at home with his momma!
More than likely…he probably wished for more super hero toys. Gah!

Yep I’m totally stealing your “cupcake stand” idea for KP’s party this weekend! Great idea! Everything looks so cute and, most of all, FUN!!!
Mandy says
Thanks girl!! I can’t remember who I stole that cupcake stand idea from, but it’s so easy and I love that you can buy wrapping paper to match the theme! I bet KP is getting super excited for her Dora party!

Oh my gosh those cupcakes with the sharks are SO neat. Love your colors and the chalkboard buckets were an awesome find!
Mandy says
Thank you so much! The chalkboard buckets were a total score! I never find stuff that cute in the $1 bin!

What a great party! Kaedin asks me all the time if when he grows up he has to move out. I told him when he was at college it was discussable but when it was time to get married yes. He didn’t understand why his wife couldn’t just move in with us!
Great job once again!
Mandy says
I am that weirdo mom that would let my son and his wife live with me! LOL! Ok, maybe not. But I still just can’t imagine how I will survive when they move out.

What a great theme! I love the cupcakes and all the printables. If I had a pool, I’d have birthday parties in mine every year too! Love the blue & orange colors too, that’s the theme of Cole’s nursery.
Parker and his girlfriend make quite the pair! Look how happy he is to be standing next to her!! Melt my heart. You are in TROUBLE 🙂

How brave of you to have TWELVE 5-yr olds and their families. It does add up quick!! Looks like you all had a blast!
Oh, and I love that Parker has a friend named Ansen. My brother’s name is Anson!
