Being adventurous is usually not in my vocabulary. I grew up as a cautious child who always liked to follow the rules. I was never too keen on taking risks or going outside of my comfort zone.
Then I met my husband.
<<Polar opposite>>
He pretty much lives for adventure.
I thought early on in our marriage, “This just may not work out how I’d hoped…” He is constantly pushing me to try new things.
But something in me changed over the last 8 years. Little by little I started to enjoy being pushed out of my comfort zone.
And now I’ve reached a point in my life where I feel like if I’m not being stretched…then I’m not truly growing. In any thing. In my family life. As a mother. As a wife. Or Christian. Or daughter.
I have this deep desire to DO MORE.
Even when it’s scary.
Going zip lining has been on my bucket list for well over 5 years. It’s one of those items that I thought I would never be able to conquer.
For one I am afraid of heights. Yea.
And two? I don’t like hanging from anything.
Thankfully the owner, Mike, {pictured above} of Shawnee Bluff Canopy Tours accompanied us on our zip line tour.
He was amazing. And by amazing I mean…helpful, smart, encouraging, funny. Basically he {and the two guides that were with us} made me feel so incredibly comfortable.
I honestly don’t know that I could have ever lifted my feet from that first platform without their incredible attitudes and support.
It felt so GOOD to overcome a huge fear. And not just overcome it, but to have fun while doing it!
There were lots of HIGH-FIVES at the end.
I think I even impressed the hubs. Ha.
There were 8 people other people with us on the tour {plus the guides}.
Some of the people we knew…some we did not, but we had the best time together.
I think it’s safe to say I can check this item off my bucket list.
Officially.
If you live local and are interested in an amazing experience you can check out Shawnee Bluffs Canopy Tour HERE.
And I’m curious, HAVE YOU EVER OVERCOME A HUGE FEAR?

This is on my bucket list too… I am terribly afraid of heights, heck… I still get nervous flying! Yay to you!!!

I am the same exact way girl! It’s less scary than I thought it would be! You can do it! 🙂

This looks awesome! I’ve been really wanting to do this. I live pretty close so I definitely need to check them out!

You should totally check it out…the view is gorgeous too! I bet it’s even more amazing in the fall! Then grab lunch at Blue Sky Winery! 🙂 Heck, call me and I’ll come meet you!

So cool! I too am not adventurous at all. Totally scuuuured of heights.

I feel ya sister! For some reason the height part didn’t get me as much as the “holy cow, I’m hanging from a line” part. Lol! Glad I did it!

I have always wanted to go zip lining, but I’m not sure I could actually go on it. I try to be adventurous, but I am realizing more and more that my comfort zone is not as big as it once was in this department. Good for you!

That’s what I always say too…especially now that I have kids. I’m all like, “I can’t risk my life!” Haha! But this was truly not that scary! You could do it!

Oh Mandy I feel your pain:) I am terrified of heights and am not adventurous at all! I hold the purses at amusement parks. My daughter and I took my hubby zip lining for his 40th 2 years ago. I was completely sick about my precious kid being up that high hanging from a rope! But she and my hubby had a ball. I did it. But I have never been so thankful to have my feet back on the ground in my entire life! We try to instill cautious behavior in our daughter while allowing her to be somewhat adventurous – while we are still in control:) Thanks for the great post! And stay hungry for adventure! Susan

There were some older folks on the trip with us and I thought, if they can do this…I CAN DO THIS! Actually our guide was talking about how tons of kids do it all the time. I think it would be such a fun family thing to take your kids on (not mine of course because they are too little). But once they are older I totally want to do a family zip line! Good for y’all that you promote cautious adventure! 🙂 I love that!

WOW! You are brave. That’s one of those things I “think” I would like to do…but the falling to my death part scares the hell out of me! Leave my children mother-less?? My husband doesn’t know where anything is in our house! Or what they like for snack! ahhhhh! :-} Very cool- congrats!

I was on my way up to get hooked up. Then the people I was with all chickened out. Maybe next time. How fun!!! I still won’t get on an airplane though!! 🙂

P.S. I think when the good Lord says it is your time to go. It is your time to go. You could step out your front door and He can call you home. So, I say, Go. For. It.

This was mine too! I hate heights, and wasn’t sure I could do it. But then my 8yo jumped off (and I thought he would be hesitant!) and I had to follow: I was terrified. I’ve done it twice now and absolutely love the thrill. I never thought I would…..and so glad I did it.

Way to face a fear, Mandy! I’m afraid of heights too, but also faced my fear by going ziplining a couple years ago in Mexico. Problem is that now my husband thinks we should take it to the next level… and go sky diving. Um, no… not happening, husband. LOL
