When we decided to have a surprise party for my dad’s 60th birthday, we knew it was gonna be tough to keep it a secret. He’s kinda like me (or maybe I’m kinda like him)…he doesn’t let anything get by him.
Luckily, my mom didn’t spill the beans. God love her…she is not always the best at keeping secrets. I have to say she did a GREAT job of being hush hush!
We decided to rent out Houlihan’s patio. He actually thought that they were coming to meet me and J for dinner. Not the case.
Here’s his expression when he walked in and saw everyone…
My mom’s expression is kinda funny too! She was so excited to see that he was so shocked. He actually teared up…that is how surprised he was!
He kept telling us…”This is the first time in 60 years that anyone’s been able to surpise me!”
I think we can call that a SUCCESS!
So many people showed up to help us celebrate! I think we had over 50 attend!
I did most of the decorating with pictures of my dad from when he was younger. This was his high school senior picture.
Almost rocking some Donald Trump style hair???
And a few of him from even FARTHER back.
These were my last minute cupcake toppers.
I didn’t originally order cupcakes, but with the cake only feeding 40 and our guest list growing by the minute…I wanted to be sure we had enough.
If you know my dad…then I don’t need to explain the beer mug shaped cake. The man can drink some beer people. I’m not saying I approve, but I am just stating the facts. My cousins all know Uncle Rick as the uncle that “can drink more beer than anyone they know”. Awesome.
I always joke and say that I am not my parents daughter because I have NEVER (and I MEAN NEVER) had a beer in my life. I know. Gasp.
The smell of it makes me want to vomit.
They are WAY more fun than me. And I am ok with admitting that. They can party with the best of them. But me, well, I prefer to stay home and watch a movie. Maybe I’ll change when I get to be their age.
Some of his friends even made t-shirts to wear to the party.
His last name is “Wilson”.
And of course, some of his friends know him just too darn well. This was probably his favorite gift. Although I can’t claim that for sure because he got A LOT of crazy gifts. Including a penis pump. Yea.
I covered my face as he was opening and demonstrating how some of these gifts worked. Daughter = slightly embarrassed.
I am pretty sure he had a GREAT time! I truly appreciate everyone who came out and helped make his celebration special!
Hope you enjoyed yourself dad! Happy 60th! We love you!

I love when you can pull off a surprise party for someone that is hard to surprise. I had a 25th Anniversary party for my parents 5 years ago in May. My dad knew about it, but my mom had no clue. Happy birthday to your dad! =)
