Is your husband the type of guy who hardly notices when you get your hair colored? Do you have to be all like, “Hey babe, did you notice I got my hair done today?“
Ummmm, ok…my husband is that man. The man that lets hair makeovers go unnoticed. I could go from dark brown to bleach blonde and he’d probably still walk right by me, tap me on the butt and keep on keepin’ on.
He’s not very observant. Although, what man really is, right?
So it’s safe to say that when I make minor {or even major} home decor changes…he pays no attention. I joked a few months back because I completely changed out the pendant lights that hang over our island in the kitchen and I knew he wouldn’t notice. It took him 3 days and even then…I had to say, “Do you like the new lighting?“
GAH! What is wrong with men.
One of my favorite quotes from him {to date} came a few weekss ago when our new basement couch arrived. Of course, he did not help me pick it out. Or even know that I was buying a couch at all. He leaves the decorating all in my hands. But when it was delivered and set up in the basement I ask him, “Do you want to see the new couch?
His quote:
“Nah. If you’ve seen one couch you’ve seen em’ all.”
Wow.
And that, my friends, is the sign of a passive husband who totally trusts in his wife’s home decor skills. The question is…am I that good or is he that uninterested? Hmmmm.
Ok, on to the point of this post…the dining room updates. I posted pictures of our dining room last year after we added the board and batten.
It did WONDERS for the look of this room.
I wish I could find before pictures of the dining room when the walls were maroon. Ick!

You know how obsessed I am with my gallery walls. It’s a sickness. In case you want to truly see how many pictures I have hung in my home then check out my project gallery.
Do not ask how many holes I have in my dry wall.
I’m running out of wall space quick. Thank goodness for the basement…TONS more blank walls. Chime – birds singing!
I had bought these colorful circle mirrors at Hobby Lobby over 6 months ago. I had no idea where I would hang them…that’s what I do. Buy things because I like them not because I have a spot to put them. Ahem.
I added them to the dining room wall and the helped brighten up the space!
Have you made small changes in a room that had a big impact? Am I the only one who has a husband that doesn’t notice any minor or major home decor changes? I’d love to hear!
ps Sorry these pictures are so bright. I didn’t realize my ISO was way off and I was going to re-do them, but guess what…my main lens is broke. UGH!

That is so funny. One year we put up the Christmas tree and decorated it. A couple of days latter I decided I wanted the “big tree” in another room. I moved the “big tree” by myself into the formal, fully decorated. My husband never noticed. I finally had to say something. MEN????
I think your dining room looks wonderful! I also love gallery walls!

I have my desk in one part of the livingroom/kitchen, and it was really boring, I mean, a cheapass Ikea desk and nothing on it? Not very pretty. So I found an old designer lamp I´d gotten years ago, hung up some nice photographs from Rhodes and an inspiration board; suddenly, studying felt more cheerful!:-)

Hello! I love your decorating! We are in the process of redecorating, do you mind telling me what kind of floor those are in the dining room? I love the color.

It’s hand scraped Hickory – I forget the exact color. 🙂

Ha! My hubby notices everything. Not always a great thing… “Er, yes, these shoes are new.” Always followed by “but it was on sale!” 🙂 Love your dining room and the new mirrors!

My hubby was very opinionated regarding tile, stone, fixtures, etc. in our recent (as in still not completed) home renovation, but he has a stone restoration business so it’s his life. However, when it comes to towels, curtains, pictures and general home decor – he leaves that to me. He did notice my recent haircut, but I cut off 5 inches so it would have hard to miss! LOL!

I wish my husband didn’t notice house decor changes! He has an opinion on EVERYTHING. it doesn’t matter if it’s fabric, furniture, or paint color, he had something to say. It took us months to pick out a couch and even longer to find a dining room table. Consider yourself lucky!

I have to say Mandy, mine is the opposite. He notices … we have this joke about our friends home (your home reminds me of theirs). 🙂 The wife looves to decorate and has tons of gallery walls. We’ll go there and my husband will say “oh that’s new” or something like that. And my friends’ husband would NEVER notice. hahah! 🙂 Love your dining room, btw! 🙂

that is too funny- I think we are married to the same man. My husband would not notice a thing I did, I did the same thing, changed something and waited to see how long it would take for him to notice. He never did. I then could not contain my excitement and told him, to which I am not sure he even grunted (I try to make him at least grunt a response, so I know he is listening. Verbalizing anything would be way too much for him.)

Hi, I happened to come along your blog and LOVE it! I just finished my gallery wall and I must make more. LOL… I have a question, what would you put on top of a hutch in a formal dining?
Mandy says
Hmmmm, good question! Haha! I don’t have a tall hutch in my dining room or I’d give you suggestions. I bet Pinterest might have some good ideas if you search tall hutch!
