It’s been a little over two years since we moved in to our home. It seems like I have been wanting to do a home tour here on the blog for what seems like forever.
You know when you get something new…and you worked REALLY hard on it…you want to share it with the world?
That’s kind of how I feel about my kitchen.
With 3 boys, a husband, and a dog…the kitchen is the messiest room in our house. I think the peanut butter has a permanent home on the island counter. Usually with the lid off and a knife sticking out of it.
First let me just say this, my dad was a huge HELP in making this kitchen/house what it is today (shocker, I know).
He installed the cabinets.
He installed the floor. AND the backsplash.
His lifetime employee discount with Whirlpool scored us almost 50% off ALL of our kitchen appliances. Oh, and he installed them when they arrived.
He installed the hardware.
You get the point. His free labor…saved us thousands of dollars.
Lucky us! Because if you haven’t ever looked in to the price of labor for some of the things I mentioned above…you may have to go sell your first born to be able to afford it.
Geez.
Between his free labor and our discounts on the appliances, it allowed us to do the *extra* things in this kitchen that really make me smile.
Like the pot filler.
My dad actually hated this feature. His 50-something-year-old mind just couldn’t understand the need to have running water available ABOVE an electric appliance.
I get him. Really I do. But, I also told him that he needed to get with the times, if you know what I mean. Thankfully, against his wishes, he ended up liking our pot filler (although, I am pretty sure he still thinks it’s ridiculous).
Now if having a pretty kitchen only meant you wanted to cook more, right?
Pssst.
Not so much.
I really need to attend a cooking class. In a bad bad way.

first off, i’d like to borrow your father, if i may. he’d get off easy-no need to do the installation, the boyfriend would do that. no, no, just the half off appliances would be fine. hehe.
this looks amazing! i love the tile work and the frosted glass. enjoy!
Ashley says
Stunning! I hadn’t thought that the pot filler would even be a concern over an electric stove because ours is gas, but I guess it makes sense. I love to cook and now don’t know how I lived without my pot filler! Especially when you cook a lot of pasta like we do! Your dad did an amazing renovation job! He would be in huge demand where I live! Beautiful kitchen Mandy! Now get to cooking! Hehe!

Very well done. We are making interior choices for a new home we are building right now and I have been searching for days for a clean, dark stain cabinet on hardwood picture to look at. Yours is exactly what I had envisioned. I’m thrilled that you made it a reality; can’t wait to get mine started!

I always see glimpses of your kitchen in your posts but those just didn’t do the beauty that is your kitchen justice!! Everything is SO beautiful. The pot filler is a total game changer. I would want to cook in there all. day. long.
Dad says
Looks pretty good. I’ve never seen it that clean before! lol. You forgot to say Jeff left the pot filler partially running overnight one time and flooded the range and floor … Running water without a drain? … kinda like a toilet that doesn’t flush. haha, Dad.

Your kitchen is beautiful! Aren’t you blessed to have a dad who is able to do so much for you? And a Whirlpool discount to boot?? Wow!
I know what you mean about the kitchen’s constantly needing to be cleaned up. I have a husband, three boys, and two dogs! Of course, I’m afraid that I make some of the biggest messes, because I sit here at the kitchen counter and blog. . . clutter seems to follow me around!
Thanks so much for linking up to Grace at Home! I really appreciate it.

Your kitchen is BEAUTIFUL, Mandy! Totally my cup of tea, it’s so warm, inviting and homey! LOVE it!
Thankfully, my Daddy is a carpenter who’s good friends with the owner of our local hardware store – who is also my ex boss. Yay! haha Dad built our family home, and a lot of our friends around our small town, so I too am blessed in that area. How lucky are we to have talented Papa’s? 🙂 I’m so thankful that when the hubs and I move back to the states he’ll be able to help us make our house into a dream home as well 🙂

I have that same color cabinets and exact counters and have struggled finding the backsplash to work with that color flooring. Can you provide some info on the backsplash and flooring? Thanks!
Jennifer says
Joy, we do as well. We just put in a similar floor a few months ago by Mohawk. It is a strand woven bamboo in baked natural color.
Mandy, what is the name of your wall color please? I’m struggling to find a good color. Please!!!
Mandy says
Just added the information here:

How do you like the bamboo?
Joy says
I didn’t see a note on the flooring? Is that available?
Mandy says
The wood flooring is a hand-scraped hickory. The brand was Shaw.
Jennifer says
Thanks so much for the info 🙂 As for the bamboo … I love the color and ease of care. The people before us had cheap ugly oak in the foyer, carpet in the den and dining room, and a super ugly pattern linoleum I’m the kitchen and sunroom. For continuity, I wanted one floor since it is a very open floor plan. We have been having problems with the floor boards coming apart. The install guys couldn’t figure out why, so we had to have a Mohawk rep come out who decided they needed an independent floor inspector to come out. This guy was like floor csi with all his gadgets and microscopes hooked up to his ipad. Then two weeks later, his report was released and he is blaming the installers for not doing it properly but I have had the production manager from Flooring America out to see it this week as well. He and I both think it is defective product so they are now battling Mohawk. Will have our foyer, sunroom, and part of the kitchen replaced in couple weeks he said. So, again, I love the bamboo but not so much these problems (which the installers and the other guys have never seen before). We chose this floor since it is twice as hard as oak and I needed something to stand up to my 4 1/2yr old and 22mos old sons. However, the first week after it was installed in April, their Little People bus scratched the heck out of it as have a few other toys. Anything I THOUGT would scratch it went into the basement before install but now we have our Thomas table, some duplo legos, some puzzles, books, books on CD, that kinda stuff in our sunroom. Would I pick it again, absolutely! But I wish they hadn’t set my expectations that my kids wouldn’t be able to destroy it or hurt it. But like a new car, now that we have the first few scratches, I don’t freak out anymore. I just get out my denatured alcohol to get crayon or marker off the floor and get out my wood putty and wood marker to fix dings and get out my poly marker to fix scratches in the poly finish.

Your kitchen is beautiful!!! I absolutely love it 🙂 My fiance and I recently purchased our first home and we have been trying to find an affordable way to open up our kitchen, dining room, and living room. Unfortunately, the wall between the kitchen and living room is a carrying wall. Your kitchen may be the perfect solution for us. Thank you so much for posting!

Awesome! Glad it gave you an idea that may work in your home!

Thank you! Lowes!

Love your kitchen!!!
Do you have any details on your range hood. My husband really wants one in our kitchen but our ceilings are going to be 12ft and it we can’t carry it all the way up to the ceiling. I noticed yours stops without venting outside, which would work perfect.

What is the name of your granite?? We are building and are trying to decide on the granite we want to put in…the builder is refusing our request for carrera marble 🙂 Thanks!
Mandy says
I am not sure on the exact color. I am sorry!! I bet if you took a pic in they could find something similar??
Mandy says
Just found the color of our granite…”Bianco Antico”! 🙂
Jaynne says
What is the name or brand of the backsplash? Also, around how much did it cost? It looks amazing!
Mandy says
It’s a small mosiac tile from Lowes. Not sure on exact color…but I bet you could still find something similar.
Kelly says
Hi! I really like your kitchen and website 🙂 I am redoing my kitchen and would really love to know more about the countertop… the countertop is the hardest decision I’ve been tasked to make. Thank you so much 🙂
Mandy says
Hi Kelly! Thanks so much! The counter top is granite. I can’t tell you the exact color…because I have no idea! I bet if you took in a picture they could show you something similar. All granite slabs are different anyway.
Mandy says
Found the granite color for you! It’s called “Bianco Antico”! Hope that helps!
Cassandra says
Hi! I found your blog on pinterest. I was wondering if you know the name of your cabinetry? They look very similar to ones that we have picked out for our new house and I am trying to get an idea of how they will look.

I just added the information for the cabinets here: http://houseofroseblog.com/new-home-kitchens/
