It’s now officially been three years in the making…this big boy room reveal.
<<Ahem>>
If I had to pick the #1 requested blog post from reader emails…it would, without a doubt, be the request to see my middle child’s bedroom. Probably because it’s one of the only rooms I don’t have pictures of on the blog.
And poor Mr. Bents…his mommy just never could get his room together.
You would think that since it’s blue it would be the easiest of the rooms to finish, but something about that deep dark navy just left my brain feeling confused.
But, I’m finally proud to say that we have his room finished {kinda}. For the most part. Minus a few wall hangings. But who’s counting those? Psst.
Most of his furniture and decor is hand-me-down from his older brother so when I say we gotta work with what we got…we GOTTA work with what we got.
My money tree out back that I begged Santa for never showed up.
I found it a little trickier to decorate a 3 year olds room. Nurseries are easy for me, but once they turn 2 1/2…you have to worry about things falling on them or toys that they could choke on.
Not that you don’t have to worry about that when they are babies, but it just becomes EVEN more of a concern when they become toddlers.
And so…I had to make sure that his room was not only cute and boyish…but safe.
Some of the furniture my dad built for us {the nightstand & cubby holder and that saved us a TON of money.
That dad of mine, I tell ya…he’s a money saving fool for us.
The absolute best part about his room is his Knock Off Land Of Nod Book Display.
Since I couldn’t justify spending $70+ on this from their website…I showed my dad a picture of the Land Of Nod one and BAM…he built this for $25.
We call it his “reading nook” and he LOVES it.
The original theme in is room was “Alphabet”.
I know, unoriginal, but I found this canvas print from Target about 4 years ago and used it as the inspiration for the entire space.
I’m thinking when we get our adopted child that Bents room will have to house two of the four kids…and so I imagine we will be doing a room redesign extremely soon. With matching twin beds and all.
That decision is still in the works…and we will know more once we know if we are getting a boy or a girl. If it’s a girl then SJ is in trouble…he will have to give up his solo room to the lady.
I’m already dreaming up a room of “discovery”…with maps and globes and things to explore. Oh my.

I LOVE the navy. We bought our house in March, and my son’s bedroom has a map that takes up an entire wall. We liked it, so we haven’t done much to the room except put our furniture in it. We desperately need to finish it though because Little Boy #2 is coming in January, and will eventually be claiming that room for himself, bumping N to a different room, that’s currently the playroom. Ugh, I was much more organized when I was pregnant with my first.

Thanks Danielle!! I would love to see the wall in your son’s room!! That’s what I want to do….an entire wall with a map!

You’ve given me some inspiration! I need to get my behind in gear with my boys’ rooms. I especially love the stuffed monster toy on his bed. I may have to add something like that to my shop.

Aren’t those little monsters cute!

I am amazed at your ability to make a space beautiful, kid friendly but still look nice and not cartoon like. I’m stuck currently with the problem of a boy and girl sharing a room. They will be stuck sharing for awhile, unfortunately. My son is obsessed with Disney things, and it is hard to make a room nice, but kid friendly with that sort of thing.

And did I miss a post about the adoption?? The last I heard it was something about three or the four families at your same agency would be getting a child, have you heard back and found that you are one of them??!!! Do you know when?! Super exciting!! Can’t wait to hear more:)
Take care!!

You are one talented woman. It’s the perfect little boy room. Sophisticated but still a hint of toddler whimsy. So super cute.

Cute bedroom! What I like the best about it… is it’s so clean!! Except? Is it that clean right this second?! My favorite posts are still your real life posts, because that’s how we live at our house. If you don’t know where it goes, throw it on the floor, and your mother will eventually get tired of stepping over it, and she’ll put it away. (Hey… I should have that long sentence cross-stitched onto a throw pillow!) But really… this bedroom is adorable. Well done.

I really like this room! It is so perfect for a toddler who is not a baby but not quite yet a big boy. I bet he loves it. You are one special momma!
