This week my Blue Ombre Birthday Party was featured over at Hostess With The Mostess. If you have never been to her site…it’s one of the best websites to get party ideas from. I’ve been going there for inspiration since P Man had his first birthday party.
And to think that they saw something unique in my blue ombre theme is truly an honor.
I wanted to share a few easy DIY party decor details that I pulled off for my son’s 6th birthday party. Blue ombre has been the most fun theme for me to plan out of all of my boy birthday party planning themes. Annnnd…I’ve done them all.
Superheros, Ninja Turtles, Thomas the Train, Winter Wonderland, Splish Splash…you get the point.
This one turned out gorgeous and the best part? It was the easiest.
Here are a few easy projects that you can create if you are planning ANY type of ombre theme. These colors can be changed to whatever colors fit your party.

1. Ombre Fabric Strip Banner
I had fully intended to buy different colored fabric and cut strips to make this banner. Except when I visited our local fabric store, I just so happened to stumble upon pre-cut 2 inch strips of fabric in the EXACT colors I was needing.
Holy time saver.
Each strip was 2 inches wide by 48 inches long. I cut each strip in half and then tied them on a string so I could hang it as a banner for my table back drop.
Yep, that simple.
Here’s a full view of how it turned out as the focal point of the table.
Cheap, easy, colorful and chic!
2. Cupcake Toppers
I waited till the very last minute to get the details lined up for this party so contacting an etsy shop to order printables was not an option.
Thank goodness for Picmonkey. All I did was upload a plain white image and then I added circle overlays.
I had no idea what size would work right so I just kept playing with it. Then I made the circles different shades of blue to match the ombre theme and added the birthday text.
I printed them off at home, cut them out, and taped them to a cupcake stick.
How’s that for free, quick, and easy?
3. Table Accents
I was walking through Party City one day and decided that the silver cardboard cake plates would look really pretty in different shades of blue.
Initially I had no idea what I would even use them for, but I knew I’d find a purpose. I bought six…2 large, 2 medium and 2 small and then I spray painted them with light blue, royal blue and navy blue spray paint.
I ended up using them as placements on the sweets table to accent the decor.
It added the contrast that I was needing and turned out perfect.
4. DIY Invitations
This whole theme started when I began playing in Picmonkey with different shades of blue. I wanted a background for an invitation and instead of doing some type of girly pattern or solid color…I decided to do different shades of blue. From dark to light.
Then I cropped my background to a 5×7 image so that it would be sized correctly for printing.
I added an image and then used overlays and text to create a pretty cute little birthday invite.

What a great idea! I’ve used Picmonkey to edit photos before, but have never thought of using it for all these other fun projects. 🙂 Thanks for the tip!

I love this theme! Probably your best party theme yet! I noticed your phone number is still on the invitation though. You might want to go back in and block that out! =)

Oh my goodness…I am so glad you brought that to my attention. I posted this as I was walking out the door to go to a conference and I thought “it doesn’t have my address so it’s good”. I didn’t even remember about the phone number! Thank you! Fixed!

I LOVE the color theme!! Sometimes I struggle so much with what theme to BUT I love how simple this is! And I am totally stealing the idea of using wrapping paper boxes as a cupcake stand! Genius!
Quick Question: What kind of camera do you use? All of your pictures look amazing!
